Atelier Ryza vs Atelier Ayesha?
with only a 5 bucks difference in cost what would be the best options?

It depends significantly on what you want from the game, which you've given no information on. And Ayesha is almost ten years old now, so it's a niche audience you're asking in this thread.

Some quick differences off the top of my head:

Ayesha
- Time limit and time-based story events, including a failure ending
- Resources are harder to use optimally without first learning the mechanics (can run out of items and need to waste time collecting more)
- Small, contained areas and limits on gathering/fighting per visit

Ryza
- More modern graphics and design mentality
- More forgiving item collection and crafting
- Higher focus on battles and exploring large, open areas

I will add to previous answer
Ayesha
+ More personal motivation of main heroine. Like - seeking of her own sister, not only common for series - success as alchemist. Its cool addition to main plot.
+ Music
+ Different endings
+ Have some really interesting characters and character stories
Ryza
+ Trilogy based on one main character

Dusk trilogy games are million times better than Ryza games.

If you want to play real great Atelier games, play these games before Ryza. I'd even pick the Arland games and Mysterious games before Ryza, too.

I personally love Atelier games and the Dusk trilogy is my all time favorite. I really enjoy it more than Ryza -don't get me wrong though, I really enjoy Ryza too. Just like our fellow gamer Dragon mentioned, Ryza looks better, has newer mechanics and is more forgiving -couldn't have said that better myself. But, I like Ayesha better because I really enjoyed the against the clock style of the game. I got a good ending that I was happy with in my first run, but if you plan accordingly, you can really destroy your second run. Have fun!
