Good Luck.
Thanks. I had not thought of checking that. I started the game as normal and simply reset the video settings which I assume would also set HDR back to default, brightness included.
Unfortunately, the problem was still there. The HDR toggle is available, as before, telling me the game is for sure recognizing that HDR is there as an option but as soon as HDR is toggled on and the settings applied? Just like before, screen goes black but sound continues to work.
Not game breaking as I'm nearly as happy with slight tweaks using ReShade but still find HDR best.
Thanks again...
I've had no issue since that update. The game runs better for me, in fact since they added DLSS ... gained a few fps here and there. And HDR worked fine after the Jan/Feb update and just started feckin up on me lately ...
I did recently upgrade from 8th gen to 12th gen and simply cloned my old Windows 10 install over to the new build so that could well have something to do with it. I have two identical 2TB m.2 drives so will most likely install Win 11 on the second m.2 this weekend and test that as a possible solution. I'll post some findings here if it fixes the issue...
Thanks for the comment...
Thanks ... that is what I will try next and before installing Windows 11. ;-) ... in fact, I specifically remember using driver 497.29 for ages before moving to any 500 series drivers. Hopefully that's the issue...
I wish it would recognize a HDR-capable monitor similar as Far Cry or Assassins Creed does.
But yeah, it's my decision to not manually turn it on and off.
Yet I literally can't stand having HDR on in Windows, especially as it produces weird artifacts when watching a movie.
So I rather stick to having it off and not being able to enjoy this game in HDR.
Some principles require compromises...
Proper HDR on Windows requires the desktop is in HDR mode.
NVDIA Driver: 516.59
GPU: RTX 3090
CPU: i9-9900K
MEMORY: 132g
Dual Monitor Setup: DISPLAY 1 ASUS 4K (HDR) 32" | DISPLAY 2 AOC 4K 32" Non-HDR)
I agree; something has definitely changed since the latest update. When it comes to HDR, I'm only affected if I pause the game long enough for my screen to go to sleep. When I log back in, it auto switches to my AOC screen which in effect blows my HDR settings. I have to change my display back to my ASUS monitor and add my settings back in & apply settings.
I am not sure if you have properly researched that but I tested it on my own and even made a video about:

As you can see Windows HDR is OFF, before I start Far Cry 5.
When I start it, the setting magically turns (verified by ALT + TABBING out of the game) on as of having the game set up with HDR.
So they use the Windows HDR setting for sure by turning it on and eventually off again when the game is quit.
This.
