Anyone know why Bethesda decided not to have a text box for chat ?
It would make the game much more interesting if there was a text box (lower left corner) like most all multiplayer games have. I have quit playing for now maybe next year I will run it again and see whats up.

Because they made Fallout 76 for consoles and don'r give a F*** about PC players because its to much work for to little profit.
Plus, back in 2018 Pete tweeted that Fallout 76 will have an emoji chat system for players who can't or don't want to use voice chat. *cough
That's me right here. :steamhappy:

I'm guessing they don't want to deal with moderating a text chat. But yeah it feels strange not having any chat system at all, only those emotes lol

There's in-game voice chat.

I prefer text, but every guild in Multiplayer games these days demand you use their Discord/Vent/Teamspeak, so I can see why Bethesda didn't bother with text.

I think it was a good choice, like Natius said it would just be filled with bots and spam. As someone who has played online games/mmos and such for the better part of 20 years, this is actually a relief. Besides with the widespread use of things like discord it was probably assumed most people are on voice anyway.

if they have "turn off chat box button"

Text chat on consoles is useless and games these days are focused on console first, pc second.

I wouldn't classify Fallout 76 as a "these days" game. I feel like I'm playing a relic when I load it up, can't change audio output in-game, can't rebind keys, minimising causes all sorts of problems, locked at 60 fps, etc.
I play it on controller. These days, most AAA games provide proper PC support.

That is what I do for most of the MMOs I play.
The people who complain about not having a chat window are the same people who don't get why we turned off voice chat in the first place. Unless we are partying up than we don't have any reason to talk to you and we don't want you chatting in our ear for no reason. Everything else can be handled with emotes and if I want to trade with you I'll go to your vendor.

I have to disagree, been playing an old but great mmo for many years and the text chat box allows us to organze raids or just chat about gear and such F76 seems empty anyways with few people per server, the no chat makes it worse
