I play it on controller. These days, most AAA games provide proper PC support.
The people who complain about not having a chat window are the same people who don't get why we turned off voice chat in the first place. Unless we are partying up than we don't have any reason to talk to you and we don't want you chatting in our ear for no reason. Everything else can be handled with emotes and if I want to trade with you I'll go to your vendor.
Plus, back in 2018 Pete tweeted that Fallout 76 will have an emoji chat system for players who can't or don't want to use voice chat. *cough
