If you do quests before level 50, do you screw yourself out of potentially awesome loot permenantly?
I got a "Bunker Buster" missle launcher, it has auto aim which is obviously great.

But If i did this quest pre 50, would i have got a scaled down version and it would forever be an inferior version?

Would apply for all loot of course, I did Beckett's quest and got "The Last Word" which is an awesome .50 cal machine gun I actually use.

i'm level 60 on my first character now, so it's not actually an issue, but if i make others, it would be good to know if i can screw myself over.

Its not a major loss in many cases anyway. There is nothing special about Final Word - any .50 cal machine gun can have those legendary properties. But in some cases, like with the increased damage with Bunker Buster, the effect is unique and if you really want the weapon you should wait until you are going to to the maxed out version (usually level 45 or 50).

The bunker buster you can get off of random encounters. I got one the other day from one in the savage divide. Though if you specifically what that launcher for some reason you'll probably have to server hop farm a random encounter location.

Are you perhaps confusing another weapon with Bunker Buster? Bunker Buster is a unique missile launcher given to you during a quest. It is not something that can randomly drop from enemies.

Edit: Though there does seem to be a bug that can cause it to drop from specific enemies in a random encounter. It isn't supposed to do so, however.

I've had it drop a few times from a random encounter where some hooded settlers are tied to an explosive that goes off when you get close, surrounded by a bunch of blood eagles. Sometimes one of those blood eagles drops it.

Bunker buster can't have legendary rolls so it goes into trash bin instantly. There is no reason to keep it in your stash. Get rid of it.

you guys are thinking of the Boomstick which you can get from the random encounter (i keep trying to save the hostages, no luck so far :( )

Depends on what you have been able to find/loot/purchase before. I actually postponed the Duchess questline because I wanted to get a lvl 45 furious hitman laser weapon. But by the time I got there, I already had a lvl 45 aristocrat rapid laser weapon, which was wayyy better.

I see your question was answered I wont bother with that ... but I thought you would want to know that a few story mission arc's can allow you to get an item or plan you can't find anywhere else.

You'll have no problem finding out which those are if you want to know. I didnt want to post spoilers in case others dont want to know the info.

It's impossible to save them as they are scripted to die. Very bad encounter design...

I got most of My "Boomsticks" from Mutated Party Package. You need 3 Fallout First players to get the Gold one, regular is green. For the Mutated Party Packages.:cozybethesda:
Look up the quest rewards. It will be level with you at the time you complete the quest, so If you want a fixed weapon with 3 stars. Like the Fact Finder, nice .44 Revolver with the Broken Steel first quest, you can mess it up, and get it at lower level. So look at what the rewards, are. Some weapons are just one or 2 stars. Some of the new quest rewards are 3 stars. Its not as much, of a problem with the legendary crafting, but getting the exact roll, and then you have to name it. The quest weapons, can have names to them.
