Question on Gail being "female" super mutant...
So I am pass Fun and games, and I remember some npc refers to Gail as female. I am not questioning her self identity or sth, but isn't SM sterile and cannot reproduce according to FO1? And Gail isn't like the Nightkins in NV who suffer mental damage from stealthboys. Rara and Gail are the best but I don't feel this lore-friendly. What do you think?

Not to sperge out on you too hard, but 'procreation' and 'having offspring' are literally the same thing. Unless by procreation you mean 'do the sex', in which case I will excuse myself from this discussion as I find it HIGHLY distasteful!

Females exposed to high levels of testosterone or steroids will take on male characteristics.

Hyenas are exposed to high levels of testosterone in the womb and females uterus resemble false penises, often leading to death during birth.

Body builders experience the same thing when abusing steroids.

you clearly do not understand the Fallout Lore enough to even start a argument on this subject...

but is fine, Bethesda doesn't either.

the sterility was caused by the FEV recognizing the gamete cells (sperm and eggs) as damaged due to the whole half a set of dna thing and repairing them. secondary sexual characteristics also fade but they still would retain the plumbing even if its capable of producing offspring.

they'd also retain the XX or XY chromosomes from the pre mutant state so id argue super mutants have genders they just kind of ended up like mules and lack reproductive capability.

The only similar situation in gaming I can recall is the Krogan from Mass Effect.
The females can’t really be told apart from the males other then the sound of their voice, but their DNA is damaged by a virus, limiting their ability to have viable offspring.
The virus that affected the Krogan was artifically created, intended to drop their successful birthrate to 10% of what is normaly.

Weren't the Sm's kidnapping people to take to Vault 87 to bolster their ranks in FO3?

Yes but by subjecting them to FEV and turning them into mutants, not by sexual reproduction.

But Super Mutants can absolutely have sex, even if they can't reproduce. That was established in Fallout 2.
