When they are on the ground, I find it easy to defeat them.
The only time I have ever forced one to land is part of an open mission, there's a specific device that cancels out their ability to fly.
If only we had a portable version of that sonic emitter.....
Once someone pointed out to me they're literally reskinned Skyrim dragons dealing with them became much less stressful.
Why won't this rumor die? They don't even have the same AI package or Animation Skeleton. They are as fundamentally different as you can get.
Also, yes, you can force them to land, you need to use the Explosive bait you get from the Raider quest tools of mayhem. But they still need clearance to land.
Regardless of their 'animation skeleton' or the name of their 'ai package' fighting them in a place they cannot land will result in them NEVER landing. Fighting them in an open area gives their 'ai package' the option to land.
^^ This ^^
I don't run numbers or calculate % when I play so all I can say is this is how I get them to land and kill them. Maybe they're just landing on their own. Couldn't say for sure.
They will land, but never long enough to rip off their limbs and beat them senseless with them.
They prefer to be airborne most of the time, even when I fight them in open ground.
This genius had the shocking revelation that if the gigantic flying monster can't fit somewhere, it won't go there. Truly we have evolved as a species, this was the most difficult and perilous step on the road to becoming a Type II Civilization.
People can not grasp the concept that if the mob can not plot a path to you then it aint going to land if you were the intended melee target. When it lands you get to ignore falloff range damage penalties and hit her really hard.
If it will not land where you are currently standing (1 on 1) then move over a few feet and try again. I do this all the time with my melee, I only need them to land once or twice.
There have been reports that if you just kill the ground minions and wait, it will land as well (I have not personally tested this, if it works I assume this is a way to trigger the SB that 'you are a melee fighter').
Beware if you try to disable it during the mutate process - I have one scorchbeast "disabled" in the middle of air ( most legendary scorchbeast will take off right after the mutated / regen HP process ), floating without any action. It take a few minutes before scorchbeast's regen kick in and resume its movement / attack pattern.
It is also possible to crippled the scorchbeasts using this technique when it first emerged from fissure site - so it never leave the ground.
So yes, you could "park" all 3 scorchbeasts together on the prime fissure site.
Unfortunately, this method will not work for queen.
Going to open areas as some people say, is not a solution, I face them in Cranberry Bog which is a huge plain and they still land very few times... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
