Weird random encounter

Anyone ever encountered some sort of alien?
It popped from nowhere, had some sort of purplish globe glowing helmet and was as if half inside an upside down cone, floating above ground. Started shooting rays at me but mostly missing .
Killed it and it gave nothing but normal loot ...though it did unlock 2 atoms achievements.

Sadly, I forgot to write down the name.

Yes encounter it 2x before. The spawn is quite rare but both times I got them spawn from the inviestigate the 3 sites daily quest where you kill those very strong monsters.

That's because the Queen of the Hunt quest is guaranteed to spawn a 'cryptid'. Technically, if you do the quest, and don't kill the Cryptid you want, you can server hop before collecting the Genetic sample and have all new spots to investigate.

Heh used to have one of those things attack my old base location at least once a day, good times. xD

Try never fast traveling. They are far more common that you think.

Weirdest random encounter ive got was with the Pipe

As mentioned: Flatwoods Monster.

Completely underwhelming encounter. Beyond killing it, there's nothing. And it's incredibly weak to boot.

It'd be more interesting if the encounter lead to some kind of clue to a hidden location or hidden quest.

I've tried not fighting the Flatwoods Monster and see if it stopped attacking. Dragging it all over the place. Nothing. Disappointing.

This game is severely lacking in easter eggs compared to previous fallout games.

I'm still hoping for a Pickman-ish random encounter/location.
