Honestly the game isn't "MMO-ish" enough to really warrant one IMO. Friend's list is enough.

At LEAST let friends place C.A.M.Ps near each other, so we can make sort of mini settlements :P
Funny as I was just mentioning to my friend how fun it was to encounter different people's camps, it's like a new area all the time. I wish players had the ability to make maps, but that's really wishful thinking.
But I think the kind of clans OP is thinking of is the kind where it actually gives you more activities to do, such as faction reputation with the clan for benefits. That can be a good thing if they stick to CO-OP functionality.
I was honestly scared that when the term "faction" was mentioned when Wastelanders was announced, I was already imagining things like faction warfare.....in other words, more PvP options....which is not why I play FO76. (Nor do the majority, according to Bethesda.)

But in my personal experience, to be properly functional/effective, a clan needs to have maxed members and every single one of those members needs to be actively playing or advancing the clan, otherwise it falls apart and you’re stuck as a member of the Dead Horse club.
I was concerned too that faction rivalry might be a result of adding two seperate factions.
I’m really glad they didn’t make it PvP based, I have personally seen how unpleasant that can get in other games that embraced factional based PvP.
For the record, I never PvP, in any game.
But I especially do not want to see this happen in Fallout 76.
To OP, clans exist, mostly on discord. It's how everyone keeps in contact with each other.
To Tilarta, PvP in this game is super one sided. It's either have a complete PvP set, or just literally get demolished as fast as you can blink. On top of that, there are people within the PvP community who don't like losing and will pull out scripted weapons that are impossible to get without trading (such as hacked .50cals that do 600 points of energy dmg).
The thing is that when you can organize some people together who aren't going to use any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and they're all completely set up for PvP, it becomes really addictive, actually. I started PvPing since the 3rd week I was on this game, and it's definitely been a wild ride.
