Death is permanent you say?
What happens when you eventually run out of squad members? Can you recruit more? How does it work?

I've never seen a downed marine yet, their signal is just lost and then they're dead. Can you find that marine again? It's not entirely clear to me how that mechanic works. I also don't find a good explanation on youtube.

You can get more at certain parts of the story. You can also rarely get some from random events. If you are struggling so much that you are running out of many you are likely to die to the doom clock eventually anyway

Yeah they are dead when that happens. If they collapse and cna be healed or carried then you can just pick them up and shove them in the AWC to save them

Signal Lost just means that marine is outright dead I think, from either taking a lethal injury in combat or from being successfully carried off to the hive by the aliens; I don't think they can be rescued in the later case but I'm not certain. It's random chance but marines seem to have a variety of different states they can end up in from taking damage. I think what happens is when a marine takes a Wound from being at 2 health (or 1 from a skill) they have a chance to get an arm or leg injury, or to get knocked unconscious in 1 of 2 states, unless I'm wrong and the downed states are alternative chances to outright death and not the Wound, like XCOM. Either way, sometimes all a downed marine needs to get up is to spend medical supplies on them in the field, but sometimes they get knocked into a coma and are down for the entire mission and have to be extracted unless you have a Medic, who can revive them in the field with a certain class upgrade. Marines who get knocked unconscious seem to be spared by the aliens, which ironically seems to give them better survivability than marines who take different Wound injuries and usually die outright shortly after. I'd assume this initiates a change in their behavior where they'd try to grab them and pull them to the hive but I'm pretty sure I've seen some start pulling fully conscious marines too. I'm not certain how this alien behavior works but it stands to reason it might have some nuance to it, like the number of aliens overwhelming the group, the types of alien involved, etc. If I can't carry a comatose marine at the moment for some reason I set up a sentry gun over his body, which seems to be enough to kill any drone or runner entering the area.

Not sure either, but you can get a tech that lets you remove facehuggers. That MIGHT let you save an abducted marine. However, the event tutorial on being carted off said they were basically dead.

i'm always getting the message that a marine is lost on that first mission, when I take the engineer down the elevator, so I'm encouraged to find a way to same him. And there is one with a face hugger... yet you can't remove it. is that skill already in the first mision ?

There is no rescuing a marine that has been successfully abducted, lost signal=dead for good. They cleared this up before and now I'm having issues finding the post where they put their answer

But it's kind of weird that you get the message as you use the elevator, as if I can still look for - and save that marine. And there's someone with a face hugger but I can't save them because I appearently don't have the skill. So, why is that message shown whenever I take the elevator ? (that's the confusing part)

What is this? Okay... I'll fix this for you so it's not a pain to read.....

on occasion you get recruits by event or sripted after example 4th or 5th mission by default, but i dont know what happend if you lost all marines, i guess the game is not over immediately but on the other hand ist considered over :)

So the marine with the facehugger is what will be triggering that message, the game doesn't care if you have that skill yet or not. It is one of those things where they didn't put in a check to see if you had that tech or not before making that prompt pop up.

I'm actually a bit p*ssed at this. What's stopping you from losing one or two guys, and then thinking I'll wipe the other two to get my squad back? Not very hardcore like XCOM. Am I missing something?
