I got baited by all the positive feedback.
This is one of the most broken, buggy & borderline unplayable games I've played in a long time. I don't understand why this game is rated so highly, this garbage should be unnaxeptable & the devs should never have released the game in this state.

Also, I'm not complaining about the actual gameplay/story. I'm a fan of both the Alien & Xcom franchises & I do find that, in the few brief moments where my immersion isn't broken by another bug, the gameplay is fun.

So far, in my 5 hour run, I have encountered..
Button inputs not being registered on the UI
Disgusting frame drops/memory leaks
Unable to finish/progress side quests
My "dead" marines still being valuable members of my squad as they still move & shoot etc whilst t-posing & dead
Idk if this is a bug, but the clipping & the horrible graphics on your marines
Unable to rest, unless I use 2 welds
Xenos telefragging my squad
Stress increasing for no reason
Praetorians, supposedly the big, bad, royal guard are the most pathetic enemies I've ever encountered as their ai just makes them walts in & out of the same room over & over.
Having to restart my game in the hub ship as the whole ui just breaks

These bugs are incredibly frequent. I'd say I encounter most of these every hour. & alot of them are game breaking. Especially the glitch where I can't rest.

Also i know its a budget title, but the voice lines/acting are insanely repetitive & annoying, especially from the squad leader.
"They're coming our way"
"They're coming our way"
"They're coming our way"
"They're coming our way"
"They're coming our way"

4/10 despite the gameplay & environments being kinda cool, this game is absurdly broken

At this point I am pretty sure you are either trolling or just dumb. Either way I have no intention to keep this discussion going with you.

Because you do not like something or you suffer from cognitive dissonance, you resort to ad hominem. LOL

Aliens fanboyism runs rampant over this game. People got so mindbroken by Aliens Colonial Marines when it released that they never set their pitchforks down until a half decent aliens title came out, which this game is... and now suddenly even a buggy and rather simple game is held up in high regards and reviews like it's the next generation of strategy games somehow. The same thing happened with Starship Troopers Extermination and its fanbase; Lots of good reviews and word of mouth but at the end of the day it's a very barebones and buggy basebuilding sim with trash AI and FPS mechanics attached... and nobody's comfortable with admiting that.

Take a look at Angry Joe's review and how fangirly he was over the game despite playing it like a drunkard and wrecking himself over and over and over again (in any other game he would have raged over it, but since it's Aliens well of course he can let that go. He also would never have pardoned the horrible cutscenes and bad voice acting in a normal setting, yet he glossed over them in this case).

People these days aren't comfortable and humble enough to be critical and admit that just because they like a game (and mostly so due to its setting more than the gameplay itself) doesn't mean it's a good game.

I do not have a problem with pointing out issues with this game and I am a fan of Aliens 1986.
I even proposed categorization of bugs as some of them are UE4, hardware, drivers, operation system dependent. That is why not everyone experiences the same issues.

Take a look at Angry Joe
Fans/Fanatics have existed and acted the unfortunate same since day 1 of man

yes your type are worse and have existed just as long as fans

""angry"" Joe is a joke and has been for years now, became beyond worse when he went hard against his fans and joined the woke, not too mention decided too make god awful in every possible way movie/tv show "reviews"..
so fact you even mention him, let alone watch him ... yikes... I mean he even attacked youtuber just recently for being justly and entertainment angry in his review and yet he "ANgry" Joe >_> and actually gets crazy mad over nothing though these days again not so much which is funny and he really should change his name
(granted maybe 5% his video game reviews are still good and you can maybe get a laugh out of some his and more so his friends acting bits).

But ya most "fans" are still saying it is buggy ... but name 10 games of same type + budget or even greater that are not... if you want massive fans goo too the more popular games where they will destroy you, never acknowledge flaws, sheep too it regardless of everything, etc... (""hot"" take big example being Elder Ring where other then couple things that tried too point out flaws pre release were buried in secs by the Fanatics and sheep and if you say its not 1 the best games too ever exist you are bashed).

I agree, Elden Ring has a number of flaws, such as From's predilection to locking games at 60 fps on pc, or the occasional stutter. However, the latter can be fixed with a few tweaks and research on many systems. On the other hand, this game is great fun, but there are bugs which can force you to lose progress or waste time (which I've never encountered in Elden Ring), and from all the discussion threads this does not seem to be isolated cases.

Here's a few of the most egregious I've encountered on an RTX 4080 and I9-13900KF.
- Reprimand skill being stuck permanently on requiring a mission restart
- Marines automatically firing on aliens (again requiring mission restart)
- Losing a tool due to doors needing to be welded/unwelded/welded

Anyway, I'm sure the devs will address many of these issues in patches, and I'm still enjoying my time with the game. However, I do think the OP has a point and perhaps more play-testing could have gone into this title prior to release.

I didn't debate whether Angry Joe sticks true to his name in a metaphorical sense or not and that was not the point.

Whether he makes a mockery out of his so called rants for entertainment purposes it still stands that he is a critical and upfront game reviewer and behind that entertainment medium he does drop bits of truth and actual full blown criticism unlike most reviewers that play it coy.

I also watched gmanlives and a couple other lowkey review(er)s that honestly were nowhere as deep as they should have been especially compared to other reviews they usually make (big "hmmm" there); Is this the time you tell me "yikes" for watching those too? Where else was I or anyone suposed to look back then?

I kept watching further reviews even after the game came out, most of them kept showing the same signs as one another: ignoring blatant bugs (with the gameplay in the background displaying them even), blatant bad acting (some of them pointed that out yet glossed over how important it is for a game like this), blatant lack of polish and cutscene/animation jankiness, failure to recognize the sameyness of the action and the way the AI stupidly throws themselves into their deaths allthewhile praising the game for the feeling of being in the Aliens universe... like I'm sorry but that alone doesn't make a good game. A perfect illusion is just that, an illusion.

Also I was pointing out how he is no longer angry and deserves too have that name revoked (outside mostly his hypocritical random real anger on pointless things or even more real anger against the people that have a ounce of brain and go against the woke or any other dumb thing he for ie like where he just recently attacked a justly angry reviewer and others of "baribie").

any ways off topic and just dropping here.

Needing two or more welds to rest isn't unusual (fully intended) but that would be on multiple doors. If you mean two welds on the same door then that's weird...
I know how the game works. The bug increases my stress permanently as if I'm being hunted, despite my squad having no stress increasing traits & not having any stress debuffs.
& yes I know how to make a shelter
But the game literally doesn't recognise that I'm in one, unless I unweld & then weld a door again

Also
I'm not saying "boo hoo my game crashed once or twice its a bad game"
I literally got softlocked on 2 separate missions. I had to reload an autosave from before I started the mission, hours of progress lost & I had to pray the same bug didn't happen again just because a key card wouldn't spawn. This is a serious bug.
But no you're all right, the game is perfect & one of the best releases of the year despite having these numerous game breaking bugs I am so wrong I should simply just reload my save & enjoy playing the exact same section again. Maybe I'll get lucky & it will softlock again so I can spend even more time with this great game!
Fanboys are literally the worst. You've put a turd on a pedestal just because of the ip. I'm done here, enjoy your broken mess, ill go play something actually playable.

This is a good game that has been poorly implemented.

I am not exactly regretting my purchase, but I have put the game on the shelf to wait for more patches. I am really looking forward to finishing my playthrough but I probably should have waited for a sale because the patches are not coming nearly fast enough and by the time the game is in a good playable state they will be selling it for half off.

Yes I've noticed this when I reach a queen and I die because she's a bad motherfker (and difficulty setting is maxed) I reload and as soon as I get into the game my stress goes up constantly even 20 minutes after killing the bi##ch and no hunt. My marines are pretty much brain-dead from the stress.

As for not being able to press the X button at all and cntl alt delete the game and reloading the game to fix (consoles only I assume) is embarrassing.

There is no excuse on the planet that justify the release of this game to the masses. I would like to have been a fly on the wall in the boardroom when they decided that even with the game breaking bugs they pushed forward to release.

Dev "it's just not ready capt'n"

Manager "sorry you mistake me for someone who cares. Release it, NOW"

(Bit harsh, but you get my point)

I think it draws inspiration from both

Apparently that is impossible.
The only review you can really trust is the one based on your own experiences, ie, your review.

Everyone has different opinion about things and different... resistance to problems with games.

I for instance really love the Stalker series but I know its not a series for everyone. It is jank, buggy, a lot of things make no sense in it and sometimes it downright fights the player via means a game should not. But I love it, I can handle the problems and the sum of good is higher than the sum of bad for me. But most people would not have that experience.

There are also many games on Steam with more than 90% positive reviews that are downright terrible. This can be cause some e-celeb made a video about it (very common) or that its very mainstream.

There is also the case of Steam downright censoring negative reviews while allowing extremely low effort positive ones. Heck, recently there was the case of censorship happening in a game called Skullgirls where the community obviously reacted negatively and Steam came in and censored the review process. Hell a month or so ago Steam literally banned all people giving likes to this one negative review of this terrible multiplayer game I forgot a name of. So yeah, take Steam reviews with a lick of salt, always.

What I am trying to say is go to Youtube or Twitch or whatever and watch actual uncut gameplay. Find a way to play the game without outright paying for it yet to test it out.

If you are happy with it, buy it. If not, well, don't. Simple as that.
