What's the point of the kitchen storage block?
I assumed it allowed shared storage between the blocks it was attached to, but it doesn't seem to? Is it just a regular storage chest with placement restrictions? Is that supposed to be useful in some way?

The amount of storage. It holds 40 blocks of storage for your kitchen setup. Which puts it in the second highest storage category only really being beat out by the Iron Cupboard.

This all being said the most cost effective storage is still mortar and pestle. It holds 30 slots can be placed and stacked in so many places that there really isn't a contest. Its the most cost effective storage in the game.

Yeah, I store all my seeds there. They start to stack up after a while. Plus all kinds of other random food/cooking items.

Not only is the mortar and pestle great for storage, it gets used everywhere so you don't have to feel bad about cheesing it. It wouldn't feel strange to have 8 or more in your base at different stations each for a specific recipe.

One issue I have with the kitchen storage block though is that you can't actually put a mortar and pestle on it. What the heck? It can only go on the Kitchen Bench. Probably has something to do with how the kitchen blocks can only snap to the kitchen bench, but still.

I'd rather have shared inventories than 1000 mortars with 100 storage slots each

Good place to store stuff, like wheat or flowers.

Maybe if they made the kitchen storage also be refrigerated, then it would be much more useful.

I understand why it's practical to have shared inventory, but for me it would kill a part of the realism. So if they do add something like this, I hope they make you able to turn it off or on in the settings.

realism? Like where you put all the parts to something one place, make a wish, leave, and come back later to find it's built itself? lol

Just because other things aren't realistic either, doesn't mean i won't mourn the ones that still are if they get taken away.

I guess of all things I like being realistic, mindless tedium of moving things around storage containers isn't one of them

Doesn't remove realism at all... it just removes a boring part of the game. You assume you walked 10 feet got ingredients out of a cabinet and walked 10 feet back. Same as sleeping, (they don't make you leave your computer on for 8 hours) and taking a dump.

It "happens" they just don't make you sit through it.

Note the "for me" bit in my comment...

The Kitchen/Stove should 100% link to the Kitchen Storage Inventory. Other wise its a waste of resources.
