Daedalus Anvil Tweak?
I understand how letting people have much control of what 3 hammer combo they might make it to the end with potentially leads to having too much reliable power. However, I feel choosing which existing upgrade you discard would produce a better experience, because usually when I'm buy the anvil, I'm very strongly hoping a specific upgrade is purged.

Yeah, I think that would be a nice change. After the first few times I tried it, I never, ever buy the anvil any more unless I somehow ended up with two hammer upgrades that I both don't like -- if I have even one that's good, it feels like it's guaranteed to get rid of the good one and replace it with two more I don't want. The anvil should at least probably be an upgrade rather than something that is almost guaranteed to kill my current build.

That would be very OP. The anvil serves its purpose the way it is working right now. I know it has saved me a couple of times when I had terrible upgrades and didn't feel confident against Hades

Why is that? The best case scenario here would be that if you have one good upgrade and one bad one, you could trade the bad one for two good ones. That is, in theory, exactly how it currently works 50% of the time.

All this change would do is fix the situation where you accidentally lose your good upgrade and end up with one bad one and (maybe) two good ones, which is probably not as good a situation as if you had just gotten two good ones as normal upgrades.

Right now, the only situation in which you should take the anvil is if you have two bad upgrades, and even then, it's not guaranteed to give you anything good -- you're probably better off spending your money on poms.

Edit: I think it's also worth keeping in mind that while I say "bad" upgrades, there are very few Daedalus Hammers that are actually bad. Some are more situational than others and require you to plan your build around them. So, rather than getting bad hammers, it's more likely that you've gotten ones you weren't planning on and had to tweak your boons to adapt to them. By the time you get to Styx, your build should be pretty much finished, and replacing a hammer that you didn't actually want but ended up building around anyway with two completely random ones is likely to leave you with a build that is worse than if you had gotten those upgrades in the first place and built around them instead.

There are no situations where being able to pick which hammer you want to discard could make you more powerful than you could be when one is randomly chosen, but if you have even one upgrade you want to keep, taking the anvil is almost never worth the risk of losing it.

But that's the point, it's a gamble. A last resort if you have 2 bad upgrades or have only one and want to risk it.
