Why is the spear so bad?

Of all the weapons in the game I find the spear to be absolutely awful, no matter which aspect I am using. I have yet to find a viable build for it, but this weapon is just so sluggish and painful to use lmao. The spin attack is too slow, even with the charge speed upgrade. The special is next to useless and.... thats all it has going for it really. Every other weapon has better damage output by default.

Am I missing something here or is that generally how most people feel about the spear?

Confirmed. This made my Spear experience a lot more enjoyable. The enemies are simply unable to retaliate, and there is yellow stuff on the screen EVERYWHERE. I even got lucky and got the Legendary, it's like playing Gradius. Spam attack.

Aspect of Achilles + Flurry Jab + Serrated Point = awesome DPS, and that's without any boons!

Aspect of Hades + Flaring Spin + Massive Spin = a spear to rival GIgaros. 'nuff said.

Actually, you can't really go wrong with any of the Daedalus Hammer enchantments for Varatha.

The spear is (one of) the best. Now can't we all agree that the rail is garbage lol

if you use it right, it's strong, I recommend either the dash hammer or the flurry jab hammer while stacking either Athena or Aphrodite's damage buffs (Athena's deflect+Attack and backstab buffs and Damage reduction or Aphrodite's Weak+Attack Weak+Damage and Damage reduction) using the aspect of Achilles as a tool to avoid damage rather than using it as an attack too. I used the Athena and quick attack method to beat hades with extreme measures on. Also using Athena or Poseidon's call to avoid damage at any given moment is what worked for me. Also Hermes is a great support, since he has an attack speed buff, a movement speed buff and a dash buff which all add on to it. If you use your night talents the right way you can manipulate it to fit into your favour

shield is by far the easiest weapon, I actually beat the game with the spear first, so my take is spear is my second best weapon, but the spear with life steal is quit hard to use, then i'd say, sword and bow are my weakest of the bunch, only because you have to kite so much, now this is in regards to the final boss fight,
getting to the end with any of the given weapons is not the issue, its the final fight I find the toughest in that order of weapons

You guys just suck with the spear. It's my 2nd favorite weapon in the game. The key to using it is distance. Unlike other melee weapons like the fists, the shield, or the sword, the spear has reach which allows you to hit enemies from a further distance while they don't hit you. I've completed my last two runs with the spear with very little problem.

try using the special that automatically hit multiple enemies to spam doom/jolt too. someone commented on it in this thread, dont really like spear special before, now i love it

I actually prefer the reach of the spear to the sword,the only thing i don't like about the spear is the special

The problem with the spear is it's way too dependent on certain boons/daedalus upgrades, on top of that you often need to put yourself into danger to do any significant damage so if you don't have a good build, you can be pretty screwed. The railgun and chiron's bow are significantly better as they allow you to safely deal damage and can use nearly any boons to be effective, even if they've got nothing good, you can still fight without much risk.

I can beat Hades mk.2 consistently with the railgun and bow, but when I'm messing with the spear, I'll just restart after killing Lenny if I'm getting unlucky with boons and upgrades. I might check the Daedalus hammer that spawns after, but it depends on how redeemable my build is looking.

Definitely needs a buff in some areas and nerf in others. It can be one of the best weapons in the game with specific boons/upgrades but with others, it's pretty unusable. Only weapon type that seems completely unbalanced when it comes to its boons/upgrades.

Maybe if the hidden aspect debuff didnt suck so bad it would be a good weapon. I love the sword aspect, I wish the spear was similar.

I just completely slaughtered everything by getting Poseidon knockback, extra damage on wall slam, duo boon with Zeus, three prong spear upgrade and rapid attack upgrade with the hammers. Finally Hermes gave me upgraded attack speed to seal the deal. Everything just completely evaporated under the might of that combo.

I absolutely loved this as well. RNG hasn't been so kind to me since and I haven't been able to recreate this.
