Most importantly, don't try to lifesteal your way better when things are going badly, especially against bosses. Bosses you'll have to beat with what you've got using the special as your main weapon. If you start trying to power up spins while they're running around you'll occassionally get back 5 health but lose 20 doing it. I would only spin attack in larger rooms once you've got all the ranged out of the way to then claw back a bit (even then, just buy healing).
My first attempt with it I tried to use the lifesteal (and failed at the final boss), second one I built around the special and just played cautiously in order to go all the way with little trouble.
Or rather a Daedalus-send ;) the Winged Serpent enchantment is also very valuable.
I personally have a lot of success with this aspect, add on the right boons + keepsakes and hammer upgrades and you'll basically regenerate like a starfish while you bullet hell your enemies with sawblades. Alternatively If you get the hammer upgrade where your dash strike hits 3x then your DPS absolutely shoots through the roof.
Edit:Just tacked on a bit more stuff.
Not really. Zeus seems rather useless, his lightning based boons have low damage. Demetra has that dash boons that is worthless, Poseidon is good for the cast attack.
Also, toughest run could very well be impossible, because it includes max punishments.
