Is this game supposed to difficult on the 1st boss or am I just bad
I am able to get to the 1st boss however I typically always wipe. I understand the game is supposed to be hard but I've already spent an hour and a half in the game and I keep failing at the 1st boss. Any recommendations?

Yes it takes a while to learn.

Hour and a half is nothing they expect your first clear to come around the 30 hour mark.

My best all round advise even for bosses.

Play less aggressively.

Spend a minute or two just dodging all the bosses attacks. Learn their tells and patterns.

Meg is super obvious and really only has 3 attacks.

If you are playing with patience and just do hit and run attacks she will never hit you.

The most straightforward advice really is to keep playing. After an amount of hours you’ll go through the first boss like nothing everytime.

She's tough the first few times, then you figure out the patterns, get comfortable with your weapons, unlock more pre-run bonuses (there's a big difference between a 1 hour character and a 20 hour character in base power), and eventually stomp her without taking damage.

You can also enable "God Mode" which starts you at 20% damage resist and adds +2% per failed run. Can be nice to soften the learning curve.

Make sure you're using keys to unlock new weapons and spending darkness at the mirror. Buying a few upgrades (especially death defiances) will make a big difference, and the shield is a great weapon for learning new bosses because it makes it easy to play defensively and only attack when they give you an opening.

i struggled on the first boss my first 5 or 6 times but after a while you will have all enemy moves memorized and you will learn better boon synergies and things will become almost trivial.
Focus on buying death defiance's through the mirror to give you more lives per run

Go for keys and gems to max out starting HP, that will help a lot. also just play you'll start understanding game and enemies more.

This is really good advice actually, because I stupidly went hours and hours without noticing these aspects of the game like a dork.... :steamfacepalm:

Agree with everyone saying to take it slow to learn patterns, once you memorize patterns bosses become really easy.

Also some boons make it easy as well like:
Athena's deflect on dash
Dionysus's heal more and % dmg up on fountain heal
Aphrodite's more Max HP on Heart
these helped me alot to learn the game and unlock more stuff

Buy Stuff from the worker dude and weapons, The Shield OMFG the shield is a little too strong same with the Spear.

GL and keep trying

I think i played for 3 hours before i beat the first boss
Honestly though Dec 14, 2020 @ 3:45pm
This is a roguelite. Challenge is a common if not core element. This is a pretty solid roguelike to get into as a first one because of all of the permanent upgrades the mirror can give you. Just keep grinding darkness, there's always a point where your skill overtakes the help you get from those buffs and you start going far

A certain gift to a loyal friend may provide a welcome health buff when equipped that'll help with patient play to get past the first boss with relative ease :winter2019tireddog:
