Hades II

The big issue with the final Underworld fights "Easter Egg" is... (spoilers)
I think the big issues with the "You can't pause time during the Chronos fight" is twofold:

First of all, that you only unlock the incantation to pause after either several fights with him, or pausing the game a lot, not sure which.
Second, the resource needed to get the pausing spell being Z Sand. The very thing that drops from Chronos. Three of it in fact.

In other words, you need to beat Chronos at least three times in order to earn the ability to Pause the fight with Chronos. That's... kinda not ok for what is meant to be restoring a needed convenience.

I think the way to fix this is that first of all, you should unlock the incantation the moment you pause once against him (or maybe even when you die once against him, though that might ruin the "surprise"). This gives you a way to deal with it for the next run and makes it IMMEDIATELY less frustrating.

Second, the resource to get it should be easier to obtain. Rather then Z Sand, my vote goes to Star Dust. Trails can be a bit easier to do as a whole, AND Chaos is more powerful then Chronos so it makes sense...

Actualy, better idea. Have two versions of the spell, one for Z Sand as currently, one for Star Dust. Getting one completes the other automatically, so completionists don't have to worry about wasting the extra resource. That way, people can choose which brick wall they want to hit to unlock pausing.

Also, on a kinda lighter topic that I think is a minor issue, but only because of my and possibly other's personal pride rather then actual gameplay issue like this:

Whoever put Chrono's laugh to play when you enter the give up screen. You are a evil, evil person. It simultaneously make me go "Is this a trap?" while also make me go "Trap or not, I can't give him the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ satisfaction now."

So that option is dead to me, which... might not be a good thing gameplay wise if people get stuck on a bit of rock or something and its their only way out. Love the evilness of it though.

Are you not familiar with Hades 1? Or perhaps you never chose the "Give Up" option there?

Point being, it's the same thing there - dad laughs at you if you decide to end the run early. Mocking one's family members is a tradition at this point.

Wow, there's an incantation for that ?
Had no idea since I never pause during a bossfight and only heard about it from people complaining about this non issue in the forums.
Boss lasts at MOST two minutes, maybe 3 if your build is terrible. It's not that hard to make sure nothing will bother you for 3 full minutes if you managed to find the time to go down to the house of hades.
Unless you're one of the many "father of 15+ children" of course (wife is always busy).

low quality bait, Chronos is objectively very hard by the measure of Hades bosses & a spouse does not exist simply to perform free labour for you

Never said Chronos is an easy fight and never said a spouse exists to perform free labor, you're twisting my words in a provocative and twisted manner, please refrain from doing so.

Why the ♥♥♥♥ did you decide to go out of your way to complain about somebody complaining about issue, that doesn't matter to you and then brag about how good you're at this game, trying to shame people for having real life situations? What's the matter with you?
If you never pause, then how come you even have an opinion on pause during boss fight?

Kylestien, there's an option to pause game on alt-tab (enabled by default), so you can just alt-tab whenever you need to pause. Though i didn't try that during boss fight, cuz "i'm that good at the game, i don't need a pause".

I think it didn't matter as much in Hades 1 because the dad that laughs at you if you end the run early is a slight jerk who's trying and failing to do the right thing, rather then a literal tyrant tryng to take over the universe. The relationship is far more antagonistic, so it feels worse to do.

But honestly? Rather a moot point. this is SUPPOSED to be a thread about how to "fix" the pause issue without ruining the concept of it.

I for one thought that Chronos not letting you pause was maybe one of the best moments in the whole game thus far. He didn't just have power over Melinoe, but also me the player. I think not letting player pause is just fine in game like Hades2 where you fail so much and failing is part of the game. Yet, I do recognize that it's inconvenient when you hear glass shattering in the kitchen and you are the only parent home or there's an important work call or something.

I too like the idea, and there is a incantaction to allow pausing already. I do however think that making you defeat the boss a bare minimum of three times to unlock and buy it is a BIT counterintuitive.

Thanks a lot, just unlocked the incantation. Doubt I would've found out about it without this thread.
It makes sense that you'd need to use his drop to make an incantation about time. 3 of it might be a bit much.

Pressing the feedback button or alt-tabbing pauses the game just fine in the Chronos fight, which means that after you get surprised the first time (which I agree could happen at a less than fine time and make you lose that particular run), the unpause gimmick is essentially just a way to hear more Chronos mocking voicelines.
And the incantation is, similarly, completely useless aside from letting you hear voicelines from Chronos being angry that you found a way to stop him from unpausing.
It does suck the first time, but it shouldn't be an issue whatsoever after that first time.

There's even an extra voiceline once you're able to pause, that's amazing.
I hope they keep this secret, probably one of my favorite moments so far.

Why do you want to pause 20-30 seconds fight?
