It's not the most effective weapon, but it's easily my favorite.
Favorite hex is the heal hex, easily the best hex in the game.
Nightmare Form hex. Total invulnerability for an extended period of time means free damage with no concerns, and it has a surprisingly low mana cost to access; I had a Chronos fight where I spent more time in Nightmare Form than in regular form. It's also one of the only hexes viable for bosses at all; beam casting is suicide against Cerberus and Chronos ("Oh, let me just lock myself in pla- aaaannnd he's channeling an instakill."), polymorph doesn't work on bosses at all, several bosses don't have summons to raise as a copy and the weak copy is easily killed by your own attacks, some bosses move too much or i-frame too often for the moon drop to be effective, and the diving hex has brief stagger frames after landing in which a boss can catch you since they don't flinch.
As for my favorite Hex, I'll go with "Total Eclipse". Not in terms of effectiveness, but in terms of fun. There's something particularly satisfying about seeing a crescent moon fall from the sky like a damn Predator Missile.
Though favorite might be the staff because it's so malleable and good in every aspect
I wish I never ran into Selene, have to take the heal since it's so hands off good
care to explain? i'm struggling to pass 16 fear with the skull, and struggling to find it fun
My favorite Hexes are Phase Shift and Dark Side. Because Phase Shift reminds me of Bayonetta, and Dark Side is cool, leaning hard on the spellcaster angle of Melinoe. Additionally, the way Hecate reacts to Melinoe using Dark Side leads me to believe it's more than just some power. Hecate genuinely seems a little uncomfortable seeing Melinoe use it. Plus the voice change is spooky, and I love that. A shame she has such a big windup for dark side though, as Chronos can keep moving and hurt you while channeling the start. I understand why Phase Shift is useless against him; I think. Even if it isn't explicitly called slowed time. But being vulnerable while channeling Dark Side is annoying. It can be played around in the boss fight, but it is certainly annoying.
I don't play much of the fear since most of the modifiers sound anti-fun ass-extract so can't really say how it would translate to it
edit: spear is meh
As for the Hex, fully upgraded, the beam is incredibly good but with low/no investment, I'd say the Time Slow.
but the Staff on either the base aspect, or the special dmg one is my love. the daggers and axe are both fun, but im too much of a speedster so the slowness of the axe doesnt mesh with my brain and i struggle a bit more at the very end with it. but when you're mixing in omegas and quick attacks/specials the staff just feels so fluid for me. very satisfying.
i actually hate the torches, but the skulls can be fun.
+Afrodita's boon for increased dmg in melee
+Apollo's boon with chanse for double attack
+Daedalus hammer Executioner's Chop (last attack in set hits twice)
and if lucky enough the most perfect is:
+Daedalus hammer - don't rmemeber how it's called - the on that gives you 300dmg leap attack - this attack is the "last attack in set" and "hits twice" for 20 mana
+Artemis's boon First Blood - 20% crit chance to enemies with 80% of hhp and 80%of armour
if all this boons are gathered it's from about 1500 dmg per hit (if you'll take Poseidon's boon that give you 100+% of damgage yo'll deal above 4000 with critical hit)
That's why ai don't even undestand how to play anything else, if you can simply with 1 attack that triggers 2 (with apollo % chance for 4) times first trigger with critical destroys enemies armour, second - their health
