You might be thinking of Prominence Flare from Apollo instead of Solar Ring, which is mutually exclusive with Geyser Spout, and complete and total garbage that significantly lowers your DPS by preventing you from casting again while doing minimal damage. Prominence Flare does not affect your omega cast damage. The boon description says "omega cast damage" but it's really just a completely separate damage effect that occurs after the omega cast damage.
Omega cast damage is (150 + 100 from Night + Geyser Spout bonus damage)*(1 + the sum of any % damage bonuses that affect casts, omega casts, or all damage)). Geyser Spout can significantly increase the damage, but it's not that good a boon because Poseidon is an awkward god for Moonstone Axe in general, and the splash effect can push enemies into you or out of your omega special.
Storm Ring is the highest damage cast against a single target. The best AoE cast for damage varies between Engagement Ring (requires multiple enemies to do damage at all, doesn't do damage until the omega detonates, but then kind of instantly kills everything with enough enemies), Tidal Ring (does damage up-front, which means ending the cast early with Charon doesn't reduce damage, has a completely different aiming mechanism and hitbox from other casts, bad against damage shields), Smoulder Ring (applies origination, moderate damage, damage is delayed by about a second), and Anvil Ring (about the same damage as Smoulder Ring and slightly faster, better at low rarity but worse at heroic, but doesn't apply a status curse for Origination or have tier 2 boons to support it).
All that said, Arctic Ring is actually the best cast because its utility puts it way above any other cast when you already have the crazy base damage of Charon, and it quickly clears damage shields an AoE.
Local Climate is also a good boon for Charon axe that increases your detonated cast damage without affecting its placement, since you don't actually channel it.
For the special itself, Apollo is the best because his larger AoE allows you to get significantly more hits of the special to overlap and hit the same enemy multiple times. Hera and Zeus specials are very good as well. Aphrodite's is also quite good for bossing.
> Solar Ring is Apollo's normal cast and one of the lowest damage casts in the game. It's a way to apply Daze, but his sprint is generally a much better boon for that. Not sure why you think this relates to Night in some way.
Solar Ring says "Your Casts inflict Daze, and deal a burst of damage before they expire.", so I was hoping it works in a way like adding(instead of overriding) a damage to omega cast, or at the very least Night was triggered when solar ring is used in omega cast.
Nice to know that Geyser Spout works like a flat adding damage(and Night works with it), it is at least great for bossing. Charon is usually over power for regular enemies, so I might not refuse it when I get it.
And it is a bit sorry to find out that no ring boon really adds the damage to omega cast.
Same idea applies to Momus, where the weapon only copies the omega cast, so you can have this giga-sized ring from Super Nova that hits with a super-boosted cast, but the copies the aspect makes will just be a completely normally sized omega cast which doesn't look at the cast boon slot at all (except, oddly, to make the sound effect for Anvil Ring despite not being otherwise affected by it).
