Hades II

Uh-oh hidden Guardian???
I'm currently playing through Oceanus and when I got to the floor that should have had the half way guardian, all I saw was this tiny rat that was glowing red. It started running at me and a health bar showed up with the name 'Uh-Oh' at the top of the screen. It summoned Wretched Pests with it and the arena was filled with the Oceanus stage hazards. After I killed it, the rat's corpse exploded and is shown on the floor in the screenshot. I haven't seen any documentation of this occurring for anyone else. Was this a hidden guardian or an easter egg?

You didn't play the first game? King Vermin was an occasional encounter in the Temple of Styx in Hades 1, and Zagreus would say "oh nooo" with a heart-sinking tone when he appeared.

There, fixed (yes, that is a spoiler for the first game :P).

Anyway, I knew that foe the moment I saw the encounter. All too well. Couldn't beat it with the weapon I had, but in time, mayhaps...

Of all the things they didn't need to bring back, king vermin, from the temple of Styx, from the first Hades game made by supergiant games that got its 1.0 release a few years ago was probably one of the most they didn't need to bring back. What an annoying unkillable piece of ♥♥♥♥.

Just fought it today. He's really resilient for the rat he is. Was kinda fun. Throwback to first Hades game.

He's not too bad in this...abuse your cast (especially if you have lightning or scorch upgrades in its radius) and just set it down every time he comes at you. He's pretty weak at range, so build up damage over time effects if you have them.

I'm both hating and loving the devs for reintroducing that freaking little scurrying bastard to the second game, ngl

I somehow managed to encounter it like 3 times in a row when I first started, I just thought it's another normal miniboss since all regions have 2
He's not too difficult if you use your cast a lot since it slows it down

It took me full 20 hours until I finally found him. And that was after for the last few hours I was picking every hard encounter in Oceanus on purpose. He definitely feels like a rare spawn.

And considering he has an over the screen HP bar, I'd say he is considered something like a secret boss (or easter egg), same as The Kraken on the Surface Both of them play out like a real boss fight but you won't get them in every run and are skippable in some ocassions.

Hopefully we get more secret bosses like them with future patches. I like suprises like that.

i think charybdis is mandatory

I've done several surface runs and only fought Charybdis once. The only mandatory bosses are Polyphemus and Eris for now.

He's a joke of an enemy in this game because of cast...
