How does WH3 play in 2026?
Hi guys, haven't played this game in like 6 months and I have 2 questions before I dive into it again: Are the siege battles still as tedious as they were last year? Does the AI still clump up all of its armies in one place unable to play the campaign properly?

Nothing really changed besides the AI going AFK way more often now.
I have fun with it. Ymmv.

You're exaggerating a bit, imo. I'm playing without any AI mods or "fixes" to the stuck issue, and it's... not that bad. Both in difficulty and responsiveness of the AI. Far from perfect, but it's much better than before the official fix.

As for sieges, they are still as tedious. I recommend you play with Siege Redone mod, it completely disables the tower defense BS.

Really? Because I see AFK armies way more after the fix.
Nothing was changed in the siege battles aside from the half-made update removing ass ladders and destroying some of the visual design on a few existing maps (the Skaven one, for example). Wait a year or two more if you want to see some more progression, but don't expect things to get fixed. Here at CA, we don't fix issues - we make players forget about them by offering a new line of products.

Nothing except for making it so you can't rebuild towers & barriers after they are destroyed. And chaninging how units damage walls & gates. And making the secondary capture point lock the primary one so you have to get both (or only defend one). And giving towers the Spotter trait so stalking units can't just sneak in. And giving all LLs siege attacker.

so, sieges play out 99% the same
malekith is at this point unplayable

I'd love to see your metric and methodology for coming up with that number.

did any of these changes to sieges really change how you do them? no, they didn't. they play out exactly the same.

  • Can't rebuild towers & barriers after they are destroyed --> Means it's actually worth destroying them instead of running past and you have to worry about them getting destroyed as a defender rather than being infinite damage machines.

  • Changing how units damage walls & gates--> A small change but it can be the difference between standing around getting shot and punching through the gate.

  • Making the secondary capture point lock the primary one so you have to get both (or only defend one)--> Makes rushing the main point no longer viable so you either need to take both or kill everyone. As defender it gives you more options for where to defend on different maps.

  • Giving towers the Spotter trait-->Can't just use stalking units to sneak in and capture the main point to win against a far superior force

  • Giving all LLs siege attacker--> Dramatically speeds up campaigns for LLs that didn't start with artillery by removing the need to wait a turn to make equipment. Getting those first few cities earlier is very helpful.

I'm not saying these changes made the game perfect, but stop pretending like it's "exactly the same".

Siege battles are the same. AI still clumps when they can't win any nearby fights, but not as often as they used to.

CA will never be good at handling the computer's decisions, the alternative is Attila AI where it doesn't care about defending its settlements at all and will just dive the player's weakest settlement no matter what.

the change to towers is irrelevant, as anyone reasonable will just ignore them as they not only deal very little damage, if you really want you can destroy many of them at the same time by taking the spot. and then the AI can't rebuild it anyway. a nothing change.
the damage dealt to walls and gates is also irrelevant, as the AI basicaly never builds the barracks building (and therefore nothing changes) and the AI basicaly never attacks your settlements with the building anyway.
and no one really cared for the primary capture point. everyone just army-loss the defender, taking all the points and trying to win with that just takes way too long.
and the spotter thing falls under the same direction. sure, the <1% of people who used that no longer can. the entire rest of the playerbase wouldn't have noticed any changes whatsoever if CA didn't point it out.
and giving all lord siege attacker is a problem as the game was allready way too fast and this made it just even faster. great, long campaign done turn 50, what fun.

no. sieges play out exactly the same. nothing has changed. and since CA hasn't made any comments on the siege update, it is safe to assume nothing WILL ever change.

Ok I forgot that your personal experience is actually universal and your opinions are the Truth. Sorry for bothering you.
