Are you playing in legendary? If not then it should be easy.
Archaeon before was much harder stopping his 20 elite horde armies. Now he is just medium threat even if they go chaos undivided. Grimmgor is a much terrifying sight, especially if you see him allied with the chaos dwarves. Good thing there's a -100 diplomacy between them because if not it would've been an unwinnable legendary campaign if your starting point is near their proximity.
Dude; I ain't even got to that point. I'm just trying to do the early game.

Doing the exact same thing. I never quite got much headway with the empire before but i was always interested in playing them.
Looking at Legends livestream really helped me out. Not really step by step guide because my campaign looked quite a bit different by turn 10 (got attacked by hobo Gandalf, Vlad suddenly appeared out of nowhere etc...) but taught me a lot on how to use empire units, what to focus on, how to get the most out of the electoral counts, diplomacy tricks etc....
For example, if Kislev manages to win against the Skaven and Chaos factions you will have an easier time.
Or if Leoncur manage to defeat Kimmler and Grom you're safe from South.
But if both of those factions loses you're fighting from all sides and in the start you do not have the economy to support that many armies.
I also don't play on legendary but on hard/normal and it "looked" like I was having to deal with more BS than Legend but I'm pretty sure because of the subtle things he does, that probably isn't the case. In my campaign so far Brettonia got utterly spanked, Marienburg got annihilated (which resulted in me getting marienburg so kind of a win afterwards), kislev is completely destroyed, Norsca invaded the North so I didn't have many allies securing my borders for me... First I focused on getting rid of the rebels and beast men.
Now turn 35 now and I secured my western flank by giving territory to Couronne, kicked out Norsca and punished Festus for existing and revived some counts and now time to focus on expanding east and getting rid of Vlad
My approach is “assume everyone else is going to die and play accordingly”.
In the early campaign I do absolutely nothing to help out the elector counts, beside getting the few events that increase my imperial authority; instead I send Franz into Bretonnia alongside another half stack to fight Kemmler and Grom. Meanwhile another army protects Reikland from the beast men and the greenskins in the north.
Hardly ideal and you’re very much on a timer because you’re running a negative economy but with all the battles you’re fighting you get enough money to stay afloat if you pinch every penny you can.
Once that’s done, the second army stays in Bastonne to keep an eye on Ikit, while Franz doubles back.
It’s around turn 25 by now and the good news is that he’s going to be able to recruit better units than the spears-archers he had until now. The bad news is that generally speaking, the only electors that held on are Wissenland and good ol’ Balthasar, who are very much in the middle of fighting tooth and nail against Vlad.
At this point the game is pretty standard: reclaim Middenland, kill Festus and any Norscan who landed on the coast before doubling down on Vlad; all the while keeping an eye on Marienburg for that confederation.
