Double Stacking Units

So, i cant help but think about this.

If i have a unit of Shield melee stacked on top of some... lets just say spears or dual axe infantry.

Since they will be rubbing shoulders cause theres so many, does it make it diffcult for them to attack and defend. or does it have benefits.

I havent had to many issues doing this. Mix shields and spear units on top of each other is great for cav defense.

Not sure if it causes issues with them attacking though. cause to many units makes it hard to swing and hit their target?

main downside is creatures with aoe attacks
they have a max number of units they can catch with their aoe, but your basically ensuring they actually get that max
