Lord Recruitment Pool

I understand that it rerolls every 20ish turns, but if I hire a lord, then immediately fire him, then he'll show up in the pool for after a few turns, will he stay there for the rest of the game until I rehire him?

Say, for instance, I see one with a nice trait but I cannot or do not want to afford another army when he shows up, is that a way to save him until I can afford him?

You could use the save character feature and just load them when you can afford them

If you buy a lord, they will be available for your lord pool forever for that campaign. Even when disbanded (unlike heroes).
The only way to make them disappear from it is getting them killed in battle before they reach level 20 (as they earn immortality then).

You can also just make a save, buy the lord, save the lord (click on his unit card on the campaign map, there should be an option to save it).
reload the save before you bought the lord, and now you have that lord in your "saved characters" section, so now you can buy him at any time in your campaign (or other campaigns even!)
but do make sure to spend all freely available skillpoints, as unused skillpoints will NOT be saved for saved lords/heroes!

Lords yes, heroes no. If you recruit and disband a lord they should be available to rehire after 5 turns.
