Imrik is total BS to play as
how are you supposed to play? skaven stacks after stacks even very early on. chaos dwarfs? orks? ogres? its all there. and the best thing is you can barely keep up 1 army and even better what is this bs with he dragons the battles are unwinable also did i say you do that with the only army you can afford so after a loss you are done.

its just a waste of time. did the devs play this at all?

Head south and take out Nurgle, make your stand there. Have a hero sail to Calador and discover the other high elves factions. Archer's are key for early game, best to get the dragon's asap for mid and late game. I have yet to make it far with Imrik but I'd suggest befriending Ghorst and giving him lands to set up a buffer between you and Chorfs. Skaven are easy fire fodder for your mage just play it more defensively.
Yeah i basically migrate over to dragon isles where Nurgle starts because they are much easier to defend. Then work my way back to where i started. I used to be able to keep my starting territory and take nurgle islands but my last play through that didnt work but i cant remember why and i had to just migrate and then come back.

This does sound like a pretty solid plan, the dragon isles are rich and defendable, you can also send a hero sailing south to meet the other HE faction on the islands then find Teclis or just hit the sea lanes looking for trade partners. Your best early game matchup would also be against Nurgle and Ghorst so heading this way hard and fast while investing minimally into your starting provinces makes sense. You could potentially even trade some of them away to buy a few more turns of peace with neighbors you don't want to fight.
Wat? Imrik is awesome. He's the only HE worth playing :D

I agree, The problem can be described as Thunder-dome, basically.
Lustria, Nagaroth, Empire, Dark lands, Araby.
Horrible game design I say.
I don't share the exact same experience with the OP but I felt it too when played as Grimgor Ironhide.
Killing Kholek and Greasus was fine, but, Helman Ghorst, Kugath, then Choas dwarf, Imrik, Tretch.
I need a break.
Usually happens with crusader factions(Repanse for example)

Imrik is an unstoppable monster once he gets his dragon, he buffs already doomstackable units, and has quests with incredibly strong rewards. Hard starting location is like the only thing stopping his campaign from being an easy faceroll.

You hit lvl 18 and get one or two of his special dragons, and its gg, there is really nothing left to stop you.

I think the challenge with Imrik is less winning battles and more affording his armies. Having a strong army is great but the HE are not really set up as a loot/sack/raid faction and the AI can play pretty cagey when you are rolling around with a doomstack. Also if you have most of your income paying for dragons in your main army then defending anywhere your main army is not becomes the challenge.

So. Perhaps a doomstack is not the way to go untill you have made the doughnut yours? )Or Cathay
Imrik is literally the strongest high elf, skvane!?!?!? Bro you have unlimited dragons. they do 0 damage.
ONLY USE A FEW DRAGONS IN YOUR ARMY, SAVE THE REST FOR WHEN A SETTLEMENT IS ABOUT TO BE ATTACKED.

Recruit a lord then instantly recruit a couple of dragons. you win the battle. then either attack or delete the army.

HE archers are a natural counter to early Skaven and Chorf armies (they can't build actual dwarf units in any significant numbers, it's mostly labourers and hobs).

The real issue is he doesn't have a mid-game. Enemies everywhere, no trade partners, low potential to confederate other HE faction, super annoying Caledor confed quest (having to play suboptimally to get 6 sacks/occupies asap).

You won't be able to confed other elves without keeping Caledor (distance factor), and there is no guarantee that keeping it will be possible (Noctilus may have already taken it, or be in position to do so next turn),

people dont know how to play, then they come to forum to complain and always is there same smarter who explains how to play
