Even with a player knowing to find cults etc. I doubt anyone would even do a head to head against someone doing that. You'd have to fight the AI over the top of the cults as well as him. You'd have deal with changing of the ways. You'd have to likely go to every continent. Sounds like the worst head to head in history. No one would have the time to play a head to head like that. You'd both be bored before the end. Maybe on normal or hard the AI wouldn't be too much of problem but anything else changing of ways would be unbearable.
Vlad also has something like -100 aversion, but he is practically your natural "ally" after sending your first trickster cultist to Drakenhof with a Symbiotic Cult.
Or rather, you don't ally him, but if you let him conquer the Empire, he provides all the gold and infrastructure you need. A safe place to raise armies & use the portals to other regions.
It's feasible, takes a while though, and I'm not really a fan of doing it, but it can be fun for the lulz and role play reasons.
