Go back in time and instead of investing 90-100 million into Hyenas, CA invested a fraction of that money into game engine modernisation to allow for a game such as WH40K.

Let´s say they have had around 800 - 900 employees. Let´s even say half of them are office guys and maintenance, becasue of the British laws and the CEO has a big family. That leaves like 400 people working on games. One guy works on WH3 - but let´s even say 10. Perhaps 100 work in Sofia on Pharaoh. That leaves 290 people. Do You think all of them worked on Hyenas for 6 years?

I´m actually unsure what all these people do - or they count every part time job, and people who work there for 2 hours a month as "employee". Could also be. But usually employee means full time. So 2 part time people would only make 1 employee in that sense.

They should invest that 90-100 million into cancelling warhammer 3

It would be foolish for them to start a new TWWH when the current TWWH isn't even finished and has many longstanding technical issues that the next TW would benefit from having fixed.

That said, I think we all know that there if there is any TW that could really excite the TWWH fanbase, which is CA's largest customer base by far, it's 40k. Unless they do it wrong, in which case there is no TW that could really infuriate the TWWH fanbase more.

When they make a new system from scratch instead of piggybacking off 12+ year old code we might have hope. But they've shown no indication they give a fock so it's super unlikely. :steamsad:. I've wanted a TWW: Soulstorm for what feels like eternity.

I am still of the the opinion CA should just do a strategy set in 40k rather than Total War 40k. They did work on Halo Wars 2 as well so I would trust CA to pull off a sci fi rts game.

how about they build an engine where units can fight more than 1 v 1, cavalry can charge, and units have mass and collisions

I hope the game is already 2 years in development and they give it another 3 years in the oven. Warhammer 40k can surely become a cash cow. And from a release cycle perspective, there is no problem with Warhammer 3 content keeping the fantasy department alive for another 3+ years if they DON'T drive it against a wall. But you cannot do some minimal effort Pharaoh reskin nonsense if you want 40k to succeed.

I am more worried about the historical crowd though.
They literally got nothing except garbage for years.
Unless they have ME3 right around the corner and in a really good state things don't look good on that front.

I agree.

How will battles work? You will have space marines and orcs line up like empire total war and shoot at each other? If they add the ability to cover or have small groups of 8 soldier how is that any different from dawn of war?

Total War doesn't fit 40k. If you change Total War enough to do so, it's no longer Total War. This begs the questions as to why you people are so insistent that there must be a Total War 40k.

There are two styles of RTS gameplay I can see fitting 40k very well, one is Dawn of War style, the other is Supreme Commander style. I'd love to see either done and I certainly wouldn't object to a Total War-style turn based strategic layer. I just don't want to see a stupid attempt to shoehorn 40k into the Total War style, doing no favours to either side.

We already have single heroes fight 120 men units, it could be done.

I hope for a system where you recruit a number of soldiers instead, and then make them into a units of differing size, reassinging them to different units when you need. Someting like making groups of units here. Different types of uinits, different formation avalibale.

I just woke up after a night shift, so I hope it's at least half way coherent.

As I said I agree with A Pot on a different format.

However. It's simply not the case that 40k doesn't fit this engine. If you field the Riekland, you've got tanks, rifleman, rocket artillery, and direct artillery. It's all there in the engine already.

Map needs to be huge, I doubt current total war engine can fit interplanetary large scale war. I think Eugen system engine is a potential candidate.
Coldhands Oct 17, 2023 @ 7:13am
I'd love to see it happen because it'd be a reason for CA to really change up the Total War formula to fit the different setting. It would be extremely disappointing if Total War 40k was just one planet and all the factions lined up large units of dudes in battle again.
