new to total war warhammer games - should i get the 2nd or 3rd one to get started?

i owned total war warhammer 1 on epic - got it for free. not sure if i should try this one first instead.

It's all the same, and you can buy more of the same at any time. No rush to get it all at your own pace.

Well, the game is not a chronological trilogy. All campaigns are fully standalone, and repeat the same "lore" timeframe in a different scope.

So there is no storyline you were missing, nothing you needed to know about part 1 and part 2 before jumping into 3.



Instead, the changes and additions between 2 and 3 alone are way too large to even consider playing the older titles again. You are exclusively missing out on at least half the content.

THREE... But I'm a big huge Chaos fan so.. xD

3 has the Immortal Empires map AND the Realm of Chaos.. IE has EVERY faction..

dlc packs from 1 and 2 work in IE map too btw.

It depends on which factions you like the most. I think the Warhammer 2 factions are better than the Warhammer 3 ones. I'd say go with Warhammer 2 but it's a personal preference.

WH3 for sure.

The way it works WH1 and WH2 are nothing but DLCs for WH3 at this point.

WH3 has a huge map integrating the continents of all 3 games, while WH1 misses all the content from WH2 and WH3, and WH2 misses all the content from WH3.

If you want to play as certain factions, then you'll need their DLC, this includes WH1 and 2 base games, and their original races too, the DLC from WH1 and 2 also unlock stuff for WH3. So yeah, WH3 is Total War Warhammer, the rest is nothing but DLC for it.

Whatever you do, make sure you buy all copies on the same platform.

You have game 1 on epic so you need to buy any further content on epic as well or you won't be able to play any of the combined content.
