Do you have the beastmen DLC?

If you only have taurox then you won;t be able to get any of the LLs.

You must do the rituals with your herdstones, if you gain enough ruinous points, you increase your lord cap...

Later you can spend these points (don`t know their name) for increasing your unit caps to increase the lord cap too...

First off, if you unlock one of the legendary lords without having a spare army slot, he gets wounded. IIRC you can only access him after increasing your army limit.

And he needs to be recruited at a Herdstone, you cannot use him to replace active army leaders.

Also, look at the special faction bar on top of the UI. The progress bar is your accumulated "Ruination".

The left end of the bar shows the total Ruination score on mouseover, and the dots on the bar show the rewards for reaching them.

IIRC the first 4 milestones unlock an extra army, the remaining ones don't. However you eventually unlock a Dread upgrade, +1 army limit for 1000 or so Dread points. And this is infinitely repeatable for the same price.

To get Ruination, you need to complete the Herdstone rituals.
The number on the Herdstone nameplate shows the current potential Ruination, or how much the ritual would add if you completed it now.

If you select the Herdstone, the UI highlights the surrounding settlements which are part of the Herdstone's Bloodground. The numbers next to these settlements indicate the potential Ruination you can add to your Herdstone by razing it.

Dread is mostly collected from battles, and the Horde buildings. The first one gives 20 Dread per turn, the final upgrade 100. So with 5 armies you already passively generate 500 Dread per turn. Then you could buy a new army cap increase every 2 turns.

Also there's a Herdstone building increasing the Dread from battles, i'd recommend to build this in every single of your Herdstones, plus the one generating plagues.
