People are going to say you should do this and that; and "X" is what you get most for your money for and "Y" is best content and so on. I own all the DLC except this last one which i will likely buy during the current sales. All DLC adds something one way or another regardless of the myriad of opinions.
Is your intention to buy it all eventually or are you just intending to pick some choice DLC?
In order to play the other races or factions, you have to purchase the base game and/or DLC that unlocks them. For this purpose, you are best off purchasing the base game of WH1 and WH2, because they both have 4 races that are unlocked and therefore have more content and variety for the price. Purchasing the WH1 and WH2 base games unlocks the Empire, Vampire Counts, Greenskins, Dwaves,-and High Elves, Dark Elves, Skaven, Lizardmen respectively.
This is the best overall strategy to maximize content per dollar if you aren't quite sure yet what you will enjoy playing in the game. The rest of the Warhammer franchise DLC's follow a general format. A DLC will include a brand new race, or have a booster pack that introduces two or three new legendary lords for an existing race that have their own unique mechanics and special units. E.G. When you purchase "Rise of the Tomb Kings" you unlock the Tomb kings faction, which is a full unique faction. When you purchase "The Prophet and the Warlock," you unlock a new legendary lord for the Skaven along with some new units, and a new legendary lord for the Lizardmen.
There are some DLC packs that are generally regarded as being better than others, however, it does ultimately come down to your personal preference. Purchasing all 3 games gives you access to almost all of the races with the exception of the Vampire Coast, Tomb Kings, Chaos Dwarves, and Champions of Chaos. Afterward, you can pinpoint your areas of interest and purchase those specific DLC's.
After almost 2,000 hrs, I have yet to play more than half the factions.
Hope this helps!
Compared to many of the games on your play list, this is a bit more complicated and it'd be a good idea if you play the base game to see if you like it before dropping $ on DLC if you don't play the game.
Just came off a cuple of TK campaigns and I can't really say they are in a great place ATM,
They really fall off around turn 70+ as their T3+ units just don't preform. Ushanti won't shoot into Friendly troops period, Not even at a giant or a mamut.
They get absolutly trashed by anything with armor and Regen as they just don't have the damage to outphase it.
And they are royally struggeling with Lord/hero sniping, as their own heros and lords lose to everything when on foot or mounted on a horse.
On Chariots they can do some significant infantry damage, but only if you babysit them on 4 sec intervalls and only roll trough engaged or running infantry. Anything braced will get them stuck unless it's a spagetti line.
While having wery unique and fun mechanics they are getting really dated, and some ingame descriptions don't even apply to WH3.
The TK DLC was awsome!, But let's not use nostaliga to pretend their still in a great state.
There will always be another sale and while this series has a ton of DLC none of it is essential.
Just buy the base game, and start playing. DLCs are optional content - it meaningfully extends the game, but You do not need it in practice
While You play the base game, You will meet other factions and heroes (lords), if You find them interresting, buy relative DLC -
Come here again to this forum, and people will tell You, what is relative DLC for what
Judging by that I don't know. I liked the raiding in Medieval, played a lot of Thrace in Rome I & II and enjoyed hero units Arena style of combat from Total War Arena.
Well initially I would lime to try it out, I've seen someone say buy all 3 base games which seems to be the best value and play the 3rd one as the campaign and factions transfer.
Afterwards if I get hooked in, I'll get all of them.
For starters this would be a good variant and afterwards I if get hooked into it I can come back and check other DLC's.
I mean you can get the trilogy pack, who get you all 3 games for around 20 bucks. Then for me I know that I bought all DLC that add Major Races first. Not Lords for faction that u get already. But I recommend you to play a bit first then you'll know when to get dlc. Btw there's some free ones that are cool, add lords, heroes always nice to take.
