I don't buy it, but who knows at this point.

WW1 is first, followed by 40K, from what I hear.
Medieval 3 is also in the works, tho...

I would buy Total War: Equestria in hearthbeat. Debate me!

There's rumours. Apparently some sites picked it up so it's *maybe* sightly more reliable than 'Just trust me bro', but I'd still take it with a massive grain of salt at this stage.

What would the factions be in a SW Total War game? Empire, Alliance, Scum … and who?

Depends on the era, and you'd likely make factions within those groups.

I wouldn't put any more faith in it than any other rumoured next game, and even if it ended up true, it doesn't mean the leak was real, rather a lucky guess.

I'd never really thought about starwars as a setting, but it does probably fit the total war system better than 40k would.
Particularly if you set it in the old republic, so you can have sith and jedi in equal numbers.
You've got a solid mix of melee and ranged, with some "super" soldiers to act as heroes and lords.
It also has giant monsters.
You could probably even do a starwars total conversion mod just on WH3 if you wanted. I'd have never thought of warhammer and starwars as similar.... but actually... It's actually a pretty good fit.

Since people have brought it up, assuming disney thinks it will be good for the franchise, I could see it happen.
They don't seem too stingy with the IP, lots of random stuff gets it (like the sims).

I could particularly see it happen, as they were working out how to make 40k work, and while brainstorming, realised starwars would actually be easier.

But while it's fun to think about, I don't think it's any more likely than the other favourites.

^I mean, 40k has a bunch of readymade factions, each with their own designed and fleshed out unit roster, and all purpose built to do almost nothing but fight each other or themselves. Not that Star Wars couldn't make for a cool Total War game, but it really doesn't have the same hand-in-glove fit 40k does, and Disney is notoriously strict about the Star Wars brand bible.

Wouldn't Relic (CoH) be more suited to the Star wars format?

I'd be all for a Men of War Star Wars game if most of the developers weren't garbage.

Yeah, knowing Disney it'd probably just be Empire vs Rebels. I would give CA props if they managed to make many of the alien races into fully fledged factions though, since apparently some of them have armies.

It would absolutely suck if they did.

Star wars is about as good as season 8 GoT at this point.

I didn't like the new movies either. But looking at the shows they have been doing it seems they are really leaning into the older lore a lot.
