Have lords/hero's always died if walls break under them?
Noticed on my espeth campaign at one point that my canons broke a wall espeth and her dragon were getting some snacks on and she INSTANTLY died. Later on I'm taking down azhag in his cities and I notice if a black ork hero is on top of the wall while the canon destroys it they die instantly too.

Has this always been a thing?

Well. Walls being destroyed in battle is a new thing in W3 so no. But Im sure they WOULD die if some ogre unit or monster would destroy the wall they are standing on

No siege battles and wall destruction have been around since game one.

aye!
If on the wall you have a certain chance to survive and only lose like 50-70ish % health.
If you are too close on the ground, while said wall breaks or for some weird reason the wind blows the wrong way, or even if the sun is past high-noon or whatever...you get killed.

This is also a very good thing for Beastmen and their wall demolisher ability - you can wreck a few nasty units and lords/heroes.

edit: mounted lords just die, though - if they happen to be in that very spot.
Learn by your mistakes, do it better next time....and it happened to me with Elspeth as well, because she got stuck.

edit2: ever seen a real castle in your life? now imagine, getting like 5-10 tons of stones on your head or fall down like 15-25ish meters. and then being succumbed by 5-10 tons of stones. I personally would love to get to the old Irish/English border castle line just to see them...but Germany is full of castles as well.

Yes its always been a thing. It only needs to happen once before you remember it's a thing and NEVER let it happen again.

Crazy I've just never run into this before.

After learning about wall breaking, next is baiting enemy caster/ranged lords onto the walls as its going to break. It's easier to bait casters up than ranged lords, since they'll try hard to get in life leech range.

You can do this with melee lords too if you have a sacrificial hero. They often won't come up for infantry though (and this often won't work anyways since so many lords are on grounded mounts), but a hero is nice bait.

^I mourned Khazrak the same way....I was a tiny bit to eager.

Can't say for sure in WHII, because I abused wall-demolisher-heroes.....but it is always a thing - I guess.

Yes. But IN battle destruction?

you get 2/4 destroy wall or tower-thingies....once you have the building in your herd and such.
I parked Khazrak a bit too close to the soon-to-be-opened-space, and he just went *poof* because I got lazy.

Yes sir, even in game 1 walls would collapse and kill unit's underneath it.
Heck with knockback abilities you could 1 shot infantry by pushing them of a wall. The fall instant kills any infantry, this included Archaon x)

Fairly sure collapse is just flat damage somewhere in the 4000-6000 range - barring flying mounts which may be missing falling animations.
So standard Lords/Heroes just die, while Legendary Lords/Heroes can survive with a huge chunk of damage.
Fully destroying a gatehouse though, that deletes anything under it. Used to be Chaos Dwarf gates killed characters when the gates were broken, or if they closed on them.

AI just sits on damaged wall sections now - in WH2 they abandoned walls at 50%.
