Stupid question: Do you need barracks in the same province to get global recruitment?
I can't believe I am asking this question after 4k hours in 3 games, but I am still not sure. I was thinking it's extremely wasteful to have barracks in every province as I have been doing, and perhaps I need a different approach to provincial planning.

global recruitment auto unlocks for you the moment you have multiple units unlocked for recruitment in different provinces, so i guess kinda? depends on what you mean by barracks
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Can you explain differently? Do I need more than 1 barracks - or 1 copy of different unit buildings - for global recruitment?

Ah, that's what I was looking for. And 15 buildings? That's nuts. By then you've already won the game ;)

I usually have very few barracks, maybe one per 2 or 3 provinces, on the borders, and I even demolish them in safe territory
You'd better spam money and growth buildings in all minor settlements, and focus capitals on heroes and T4+ unit production

I'm fairly sure you only need 10 of a building to reduce the global recruit timer

Which is way too much money and slots wasted for a very limited use, unless you've already won and then it's useless

Any other way to speed up global recruiting other than particular faction ones (such as one of TYrion's skill trees)?

Nope
My take on it is to not use Global recruitment, it's too expensive and too long generally

So you just walk the Lord from the recruiting province to front all the time? Jesus, that's tedious. And time is money, too! ;)

For Greenskins there is a tech to reduce global recruit time by a turn, and Shaman's huts increase global capacity by 1. From sacking and raiding and settlement buildings money is never an issue. I got 75k from sacking a CD main city for instance. It tends to be a lot faster to recruit globally than trek all the way back to the home province and then still have to wait for recruitment. That said, I often set up northern and southern recruitment centers (for instance) for convenience so new lords don't have to travel as far to the front lines.

Greasus can get a -3 to global which will let you 1 turn things that take 2 turns normally (Maw gate landmark + offering food)

It also works well with the Tomb Kings as their unit cap mechanic encourages you to build more recruitment buildings.

Thanks. So I guess Tyrion is not the only LL that can get them? I play primarily Karl Franz, Thorgrim, and Tyrion, and I had only noticed it on Tyrion. But then, I tended to just build barracks everywhere and probably didn't pay much attention to global recruitment!

Didn't read everyone reply, but the answer is no, but you could benefit from it.

You only need one building to unlock global, which as the name suggest, you can hire anywhere.

However the more buildings you have, it will decrease the recruitment time.
IIRC every 10 buildings of the same type, reduces the recruitment by 1, for a minimal of 1.
Unless CA has changed it on WH3, it was how it always worked.

New Lords are new fronts, send them elsewhere. Your faction leader with 19 spear units is doing just fine without help.

But more specifically to Global Recruitment:
Every Building reduces Time by 1 Turn per 10 Buildings.
Every Province (with a Building) reduces Cost by about 7% 3% (non-linear).
Standard Cost reduction applies after Province reduction.
These reductions only affect Global Recruitment.

Start of game 1/1/0 :
Glade Guard - 500 local, 963 global
Dryads - 550 local, 1059 global

Mid-game 15/8/4 at -30%/-50%/-50% reduction :
Glade Guard - 500 local, 350 local final, 787 global, 551 global final
Dryads - 550 local, 275 local final, 866 global, 433 global final
Treemen - 1500 local, 750 local final, 2614 global, 1307 global final
(Delliandra reduces cost for all Tree Spirits, not just Tree Kin, by 20%)
