The brand new Felix and Gotrek quest battle where they can die before you even reach them says hello.
To put it blunty, some quest battles have always been extremely hard while others are easy, its not necessarily connected to if its a older or newer quest battle.
That said, some quest battles did become scuffed when converted to game 3 and i am not sure if all of them are fixed yet :P (For example: I believe one battle spawned several waves of enemies that were supposed to arrive one at a time all at once, another spawned your army in the wrong location, another made enemy reinforcements come from the wrong location, etc)
You should try the Ketzak Fimdirach's chieftain battle from the new expansion. Its pretty damn hard.
So its not just older quests that are harder.
But some older have always been extremely easy (like high elfs, ex the one against malekith) and worth keep in mind that units have changed since the battles were introduced & others wasnt in the mix at all
Take Karl Franz Beast slayer quest battle. In the previous titles, the Norscans would always come from the top right, from the sea.
Now they actually come from flanking sides instead of pouring out of the same area constantly.
One of Umgrim's quest battles used to have the vampire lord come from the same area as the first army you fought. Now it comes from behind.
Besides, you have many new toys to use in said battle, which weren't present for the lords when they were released.
I miss the older style of having to complete various steps and then travel to an out of the way location to complete them though. Felt more like real quests.
Yeah that was my favorite part of game 1
Revered spear of Tlaxla isn't so hard when I have 20 Saurus scar veterans riding carnosaurs (an extreme example, but you get the point)
Felix and Gotrek's quest isn't really that hard, but you need to know it's coming and prepare the right army, which can be kind of problematic for a first timer who considers that kind of pre-knowledge and/or save scumming to be cheating, or anyone who just wants to use their normal army which will otherwise win 99% of normal fights.
BUT -- when you just choose Battle and "quest battle" and try to win as Cathay?... Holy cow. Felix and Gotrek are like Kamakazee fighter pilots on methamphetamine. Bascially, they charge the ENTIRE enemy army no matter what you do. Tried using cavalry lancers to block the horde and what do G&T do? Charge past them like wild-men of course! haha
Some of the older quest battles (from main menu) are pretty jacked up (e.g., "OK you want me to defeat the other army with *this* army?") And some of the Elves armies are the same for different quest battles (even though quest battles might be harder or easier).
Also, the Nurgle Epidemus battle -- the Lord has ZERO abilities or spells. Oops. Pretty sure that's a mistake. Don't get me wrong, its a fun battle, but chances are you WILL lose.
So this "Quest battle" from main menu mode seems to be somewhat maybe broken, or just perhaps between easy and a crazy challenge (even on "easy" difficulty) ??
The Sunfang quest battle would be much better if he had to fight Tretch or Skarsnik or whoever so got his item plus a really useful trait.
It would be best if they paired LL's who wouldn't normally get to face each other in battle. Like Nakai v Grombrindal for example.
This way you can build interesting characters through acquiring different traits.
