O yea also have a keyboard and mouse cover. can't be to careful.
I’m not complaining, I’m just stating that it’s too hard for me and would like tips from people who know what to do.
After that, it's the usual advice. Use / abuse ambush stance to either hide from the AI or actually ambush them. Get a second army of cheap peasants out asap. Archers punch above their weight for Brettonia as well.
Really? Do people really hate how they look? I actually quite like them and I’m legit excited for the Old World models coming out.
Anyways, back on topic. Ambushes and cheap low tier units is what I did playing beastmen and greenskins and it worked great (a little TOO great for beastmen) but how do I do it playing Bretonnia? Having too many peasants destroys your income and I didn’t check the stats but when playing them they hold up even worse than goblins
People hate their playstyle and their lore especially.
Got it I’ll be trying that next run
If you go full cavalry at the beginning you can almost self-resolve all the battles
Peasants are your chaff, but it's not worth wrecking your economy to have more of them.
Allied recruitment is a great source of extra chaff if you can get a defensive alliance with anyone. Dwarves will especially improve your life, since their warriors are leagues better than peasants at being an anvil to your hammer. Lizardmen are also very good for this.
Get some extra low-tier knights from the Copher docks. You're a cavalry faction, and your cavalry are what'll do the real work (along with your lord/hero).
Regardless of faction, extra lords following around your army to help out in battle are very powerful. A Lore of Life lord will solve a lot of your problems - she can extend the lifespan of your knights, and provide a lot of spell damage on melee infantry blobs which would otherwise be among the more HP-expensive targets to charge with knights. Consider Lore of Heavens instead if you're dealing with a lot of enemy cavalry or heavy armor - the lightning bolt is more effective in those situations.
(As noted above after I started writing this, extra melee lords following your army don't go amiss either - Bret lords are good.)
As a bonus, if you have a solo lord following your army around, you can send the main army in ambush to bait enemies to prey on the solo lord. They usually fall for it.
Make sure you know what your cavalry can and can't deal with. Focus enemy anti-large with your peasant archers, to ensure it's at least softened up if your knights do have to face it. You also don't really want to fight enemy big stuff with knights that aren't anti-large, if you can avoid it.
(In response to accusations of Bretonnia not being an ambush faction: every faction is an ambush faction. The chivalry loss from ambush is negligible.)
I love a good cavalry charge but they’re not great against the ogres that are my neighbors. They do send the tomb kings infantry flying though and it’s a great feeling. Also I dont know too much about their lore but it felt very Arthurian and I loved those stories as a kid
Agree with the above posters who note that finding a good anvil for the okay-enough hammer that is a horse with a Bretonnian on it is a challenge. The grail relic might help the peasants hold their ground a few extra seconds before their inevitable flight.
Also, you are well advised to risk the favor of the warp-fiend who has dominated the simple nervous tissue of the average Bretonnian. Ambushing does help, and the The Lady will give more "chivalry" for every Bretonnian soul you destroy in service of the wood elves.
