build the money generating building in their minor settlements, do trade routes and I think it was in their economy tech tree the lower first half. Same with everyone else really, you will be swimming in money at some point.

Early game it is much more advantageous to build the Trade Depot building, because you want as much Oathgold as possible for those sweet sweet Ironwarden Tankards. Early game the gold difference is not that much and the Oathgold is more than worth it IMO.

Dwarf economy is also tied to strategic resources, you will want to prioritize these as much as possible when you decide where to expand next. Both because trade is a big income source and because the resource buildings themselves often provide income directly.

EDIT: I also want to make a point that Dwarfs benefit a lot from building tall - you want to get your main settlements up to Tier 5 as soon as possible - prioritize them over the minor ones. Worth noting that Dwarf growth is much faster than it was in WH2.

Later in the game, you will probably want to replace *some* Trade Depots with the Toolmaker one - once you have enough +% bonuses stacked up, this will earn you a lot more money. Or rather, don't build new Trade Depots and go for Toolmakers in newly acquired regions.

Dwarfs also have a few landmarks that yield insane amounts of cash - notably Brightstone Mine in Mount Gunbad or Copper Mountain in Karak Izor. How accessible these are depends what specific faction you're playing, but you might want to check out landmarks near you when strategizing your expansion priorities or who to confederate first.

I will also add that you keep an eye on ancillaries - Dwarfs have a ridiculous amount of ancillaries that provide a regional bonus to income; some are specific to stuff like gold and gemstones, others (such as Daughter of Valaya or Dwarf Bride) are applied to all income buildings. What I do to make sure these don't go to waste is by the early midgame (turn 30-40 or so), I start dedicating Engineer heroes that will have all these equipped and will remain in the same money-producing region (or multiple regions). Engineers specifically because they also have a passive skill that increases income.

I am currently playing a Thorgrim campaign where I have 14 full armies on the map and still make around 20.000 per turn.

fight battles. Almost all factions benefit from post-battle loot.

Build trading depots everywhere. Build trinket makers no where. Settle grudges. Do trade. Upgrade 1 province at a time. Sack cities you don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. That's it.

Battles. On almost every faction in the game without fail, if you want a good economy you spend the majority of your money on military to get as many settlements as possible and as much post battle loot as possible, then spend the leftovers on upgrading settlements purely for economic buildings, until at some point around turn 40-50 your economy just explodes and you can do whatever you want.

I'd recommend against that though. Just play slow, getting a strong economy going fast in this game causes you to win a short campaign victory off 2-3 units (like in dwarves case, its a waste of money to recruit anything beyond dwarf warriors, quarellers, slayers on ungrim, and maybe grudge throwers for siege attacker before turn 50-60. You will almost certainly win a short campaign before turn 50-60 playing this way because you snowball so fast when you aren't spending 10s of thousands of gold unlocking high tier units quickly, and you'll probably acquire a T4 settlement on the front lines from the ai anyways).
