Vicious cycle of DLC.
What you're experiencing is not what is universal. My current Empire, all 3 Nurgle factions are dead, without me ever seeing them. With Norsca being in control of most of the chaos wastes. Yes, that Norsca, the World walkers.
Then in my last three they've been wiped out straight away so I think you are having bad luck (although they do seem more weighted to be OP than not).
Obviously a race/armies practical strength (For the AI) does effect how well they do in a campaign (Stuff like auto resolve power, upkeep of units, how good of a economy the race/army has and if the AI can utilize it effectively, etc)
But factions are also given a "potential" value at the start of the game that effects how much of a handicap (buffs) they get.
While there seem to be some scripted sections (for example if you play as faction X then faction Y will have more potential, or if you play on a higher difficulty every faction in general will get a higher potential value) its also partly randomized (in game A faction X may have gotten more potential then faction Y, in game B the opposite might be true even if you play the same faction).
Someone also mentioned that this potential value can change during a game depending on stuff that happens.
its usually why when you play certain races certain other races seem to excel.
maybe you like playing natural nurgal enemy factions
On a serious note, they are a bit too powerful. I can leave all my units in a forest and take out entire armies just with a Lord and a few heroes. And it's not even a challenge. They end the battle at full health.
fo real tho, it's a toss up. In almost every game I've done since the DLC, empire and kislev steamroll the world with their homies the french and asians. Then everything remotely close to a mountain is in dawi hands. nurgle usually doesn't get anywhere, tamarkhan killed by archaeon, festus boxed in if not killed by empire, then poor dumb fatboi is boxed in by chaos dwarfs and VC until empire or regular dwarfs show up and end it.
The only thing that makes Nurgle slightly more noticable, is the presence of 2 new Legendary Lords, which increases the odds of at least one of them staying around until the mid and late game.
In my recent Skarsnik Campaign, Tamurkhan was taken out by Grimgor(AI vs AI) around turn 60, with all the other Nurgle factions being purged way before that(and not by me).
