Negative Traits
Getting a negative trait while recruiting something that takes 4 turns seems a bit rough. Is there a way to remove negative traits or prevent them while my lord cannot move because he's recruiting?

If you're playing Bretonnia, they have a building to remove negative traits. Other negative traits can be removed like leaving corrupted areas. Some factions don't like sitting in settlements, best to keep them sitting outside.

If you are talking about the negative trait you get for DEFENDING YOUR SETTLEMENTS;

If youre recruiting globally and locally at the same time and get the negative Trait because of that its better to sit directly next to the Settlement in Camp and recruit there.
I know some Factions really need the Unit Reinforcement Bonus granted by sitting in Garrison but its not needed when youre recruiting.
Same Thing when you have Lords solery for Defense. I use that Strategy CONSTANTLY and to avoid negative Traits they sit near Settlements or Choke Points either in Camp or Ambush. They dont get negative Traits and provide the mobile Defense I want. Probably the best Example is the Empire Lord parked directly next to Nordland so the Norsca have no chance to enter there
