I just did a Kairos campaign and didn't notice anything glaringly wrong.
The only problem his start has (fighting LM, then LM, then LM and again the LM) has been fixed with the new cults around the map.
Take out Nurgle, take out Teclis, get a second army to fight Slaanesh, bring Kyros back to fight Oxy.
Do note that you can use his new cults to teleport him to the empire or northern chaos wastes in a few turns (Sacrifice one cult for grimoires, do the teleport ritual to the other one).
Classic strategy was to research Borrow Time first, use it twice to clear the continent eastwards and arrive back at your capital when Oxyotl gets close. Or as Da_Higg said above, use your starting Cultist to establish a cult west of your capital, and use the cult to teleport back in style.
The continent is already the best start location, because those two provinces with 4 settlements and several resource nodes / ports / landmarks will generate something like 7.2k gold each after building them up.
What's also really good is when you can confederate Vindex for yet another Exalted Lord of Change and a possible capital in the northern chaos wastes. Or at least you have vision on the province and a cult, so you can teleport there later and steal the settlement via Changing of the Ways.
Northern Chaos Wastes are awesome, there are many friendly factions including Daniel, Norsca, Clan Moulder, and Vilitch at the eastern end. There are lots of things you can do to manipulate everyone, like stealing a settlement they want or already have, sell it back for treaties or vassalage. Breaking alliances, forcing war or peace.
Now Kairos isn't just the most versatile and complex faction, but also the one with the most options for world conquest.
You could just ignore the starter battle, rush to kill Teclis first.
Though this was changed so the army standing there for your starter battle will no longer stand there infinitely, but run home and start recruiting more units.
