Confederation tips?
Man I don't get it. I could have an ally on the verge of complete collapse, be 3x stronger than them, and have them love me but more often then not factions chose to just die rather than join me.

Do alliances have a negative affect on confederations? My first go to in any game is to ally with all of my own kind and protect them until they join up with me, but I'm getting kinda late game into this high elf campaign and these knife ears be hating.

Any and all tips to make Teclis love me enough to join my gang would be appreciated

There's been some wrong advice here. Getting a military alliance will not reduce your chances of confederation. That was true at one point, but not anymore so you should ally with factions that you want to confederate.

Some of the major factors that will increase the likelihood of confederation:

-Has the faction been able to capture territory recently
-Does the player have 150 relations with the faction
-Is the player stronger than the faction
-Is the player defensive/military allies
-Is the faction's legendary lord dead
-Is the faction in a lot of wars. If they are near confederation you can get a military alliance and drag them into new wars, or trade them a settlement in exchange for joining a bunch of active ones. The latter option may initially reduce likelihood due to the faction acquiring territory, but depending on the threat level of the wars, can also push them over the edge immediately.

As already mentioned, borrowing a strong army from a faction will cause it to count towards your faction strength instead.

HE you need about 150+ relations before they even consider it , so you need to use influence .
And be stronger then them .
I would spam influence on him until he yields :D OR install the defeat LL mod and get him if he dies.

I have heard in the past that having a military alliance would embolden the ally, as they would feel like your power was their as well, basically. Not sure if that was true, or whether it still is now.

Breaking alliances is probably not the best idea though, it will obliterate your relations with them. I have usually found successes confederating when the ally/friendly faction was on the verge of defeat.

Just install mod...
You need 150 relations and never ally with them since both defensive and military alliances makes the AI feel stronger than they are because they factor in your strength into their own projected strength. The reason for this is because the AI always thinks that you will join their wars making their strength higher than it really is

I also suggest using mods, at least for the confederation aspect of the game. If you just look up 'confederation' in the workshop the top results are all decent options. I recommend 'easier confederations' since it is kind of what you are looking for, making confederations possible since in base game the malus for the player is crippling. 'Force confederation for everyone' is also good if you want to go a more military route, since even in the best of games your 'allies' will never join with you unless you bring them to heel by force of arms.

If you really dislike mods, or at least mods for this playthrough, then doing what Sauske and Amph suggests are your best bet. Try to isolate them as best as you can so they are desperate or try to lure them into wars they can't win to weaken them, all while using the elven influence system to help your odds.

Edit: Never knew about that Daldora, neat info, thanks for sharing! Makes a bit of sense now why sometimes confederation status will be impossible one turn, then favored the next with no change in territory or leaders.

something not said yet, if the faction you are trying to confed takes ANY settlement they wont accept confederation for a certain amount of time.

best accomplished by taking every settlement around them and requesting they leave your territory if they try to escape their 'prison' after a while when you are sure they havent taken anything try then

Teclis, specifically, for some reason has the "aloof" trait. Which makes all treaties cap at -5 base, no matter how high your relations get. And then you have to get a modifier to close that gap--usually paying him, but his LL being wounded works too... I think? He also ends up getting into wars so rarely after the first few turns (because he doesn't engage in any diplomacy!) that I don't get to test it often. And you can't pay to get confeds. Try moving some armies down there and Threatening him.

Yeah, I have no idea why CA made him that way. He simultaneously has "Diplomatic" (engages in diplomacy a lot) and "Aloof" (doesn't engage in diplomacy at all). It's dumb.

One thing you can do is use your allegiance points to "borrow" their strongest army, making them significantly weaker and easier to confederate.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
