Characters with flying mount, like Khargan the Crazed on chaos dragon, are also good choice.
Don't let your land units get close to them.
Absolutely nothing else works.
They're magnificent.
Unfortunately I've found this to be the best and least headache inducing option for most battles. Unless you have multiple Exalted Heroes on Manticores in your army, there's not really much point trying to fight the Thunderbarges. I suppose you could use Chaos Helcannons if the AI ignores them, or if you have enough Tzeetch gifted units. But most other Chaos flying units will get bodied by them, or else get shot out of the sky trying to chase them.
