Thanks in advance.
Maybe you should only be able to use portals if you have an all spearman army?
The AI doesn't use the mechanic, so why does it matter if the player has more choice for enjoyment purposes? Are you complaining about an extra feature you have the potential to use, if you want?
Realms of Chaos campaign revolved around rifts spawning, so why can't the literal god Belakor spawn rifts and invade the mortal world? It's very thematic and very fun. Similar to the wood elf teleportation - it greatly spices up the game and opens up vast replayability dynamic. So far, his and sisters' campaign were my most two memorable ones in over 1,000 hours with immortal empires. Most other factions have the capacity to conquer or see the entire map, but you get bored before discovering 1/8th of it.
Yeah, I can live with that. And you are right: different players can find fun in different aspects of the game. Maybe someone likes backstab carnages Be'lakor's faction is able to unleash. I just tried a few different WoC factions. They are all interesting, but I did not (persnoally) find any interest in teleporting around the world and just destroying everything I want, while they are defenseless. While, playing with intentional handicap of not using best mechanics is also meh...So that other WoC lords were more or less on par with Be'lakor, I thought maybe CA could limit that portal use.
