Also, don't hoard too many towers. As you've seen yourself, they're incredibly expensive to build up, both in raw materials and in armaments for the military buildings. Chorfs have excellent global recruitment capabilities, I'd suggest making use of that when possible instead of trying to have recruitment centers everywhere, at least until you've built up a monster economy already.
Factories get walls. They cost minerals to build up. They can convert minerals to gold/armaments.
Towers get an increased amount of influence. They have mixed cost to build up. They provide province-wide bonuses or are use for recruitment.
Mines are resource generators. They have little garrisons and never get walls. They are expensive to build up so you don't want to build them up in contested areas.
Upgrading gives a better ratio than building more, but the initial cost is quite high.
Caravans should be running 24/7. You'll get rare items for finishing the first time and events can lead to easy money. Use the lowest amount of cargo if you need to.
If you get a mix theres a building that buffs the other tho so its often worth it to just mix in each province.
As a side note you often make more money just mass sending convoys for slaves then deleting them especially with the gold research on it than just getting direct gold for convoys.
3 Settlement province: 1 Tower / 1 Factory / 1 outpost
4 Settlement province: 1 Tower / 1 Factory / 2 outposts
Always build your factories in settlements with no resources, unless you have no choice. You want factories to build the 3 economic buildings (armaments / gold / %materials in province if you have outposts in the province)
In outposts always build the raw materials building.
If you have a landmark or resource that gives you +%armaments in province then replace the outposts with factories.
After this the only management you need to think of is your slaves. Just make sure you have enough to ensure 100% efficiency in all provinces. You should always have enough gold to switch them around as needed. Battles and raiding give you a steady stream.
Do not underestimate the power of Tower of Zhaar bonuses and aim to grab all the economic ones early on.
Oh and avoid giving your main units too many upgrades, as much as it spikes your power, it will completely drain your armaments economy, and you need those for upgrading capacity first.
