Wow, that looks awesome!
Tech.
- The Dreadquake Battery from the Tower of Zharr has a large explosion area. It's once per battle.
- Researching Powers of the Conclave gives you +1 use for Dreadquake Battery.
- The Dreadquake Megamortar does about the same. It's a building for province capitals.
- Upgrading it gives you +2 shots.
Dreadquakes become much more effective paired with spells / abilities. Enemy units appear to be stunned by the explosive damage, or at least not move very fast after getting hit. You have other tools in your arsenal to mop up units not destroyed by the initial volley.
- Vortex spells on top of Dreadquake shots are devastating combos. Flame Storm might be the best.
- Flame of Shadows and Doom of Hashut from the Tower of Zharr are both excellent follow ups. Plus they don't cost windws of magic.
Skaven and Undead are particularly vulnerable to these bombardments. I've gone against 3 stacks of each with relatively weak armies and won. In each case, I got my opponent to bunch up around a chokepoint and let attrition / decay ruin them after the mortars fired.
I've found a few tactcs particularly useful for making this happen:
- Blood and Fireborn from the Tower of Zharr lets you summon a unit of Khdai anywhere on the battlefield. Summon them on a ramp near the enemy to get them to give chase. Drop the mortar there once your opponent mobs up.
- Bull Centaurs are excellent distraction units. Get your opponent to chase them and drop the mortar on the pursuing units. The ones with great weapons appear to get more attention than the basic unit.
Khorne wants battles and skulls. Can't have either if army is decimated into a paste by one big explosion.
