Had no trouble taking him out like this with Ikit and a magic-attacks assassin, but I did have a very difficult time using an army whose single entities were Warlock Master/non-magic assassin (close fight, I'd probably have lost it if not for playing co-op so had three people to split micro between).
Don't underestimate the amount of damage he deals just through proximity with his aura - it shreds, and keeping multiple squads in aura range of him is a very bad idea (even ones with smaller squad sizes, like weapons teams).
He also goes down like a chump in auto-resolve, because it doesn't understand how hard he counters most Skaven armies.
Its insane how hard he is right there at the start if you are trying to engage your initial enemy right next to you. Both him and the pirates on my right declared war on me by turn 6 so I restart and pushed to kill him early, but it hurt like hell.
Try to aid him in a battle against Estalia.
Hold your forces back, let him fight the manlings and gobble up his army. When they are crowded in one spot to kill the last manlings nuke the whole army.
After the battle declare war on him in your turn and defeat his broken army.
