Can't stand peoples looking for attention videos. They will die when they stop producing games and announce it. Considering WH3 is still going strong its doubtful they are dead regardless of the streamer/influencer empty words.
How many times are we up to now?
that said it is hard to imagine whats next for total war. Everyone wants medieval 3 (well i dont, i have my total warhammer lol) but the sure cost of making it regardless of how many players want it I just can't see them justifying after hyenas. They really have to factor in how many peopel will buy a new medieval 3 vs development costs.
I think empire 2 would sell even less.
I know new games will always "pop off" but as a 4X gamer I'm kinda filled to the brim with content to play. So I dont know WHAT they do...
Honestly for me I think they need to update the entire TW formula, ESPECIALLY for siege battles if they make M3 and put more effort into building castles (and maintaining them) vs just structures you click as an upgrade. Otherwise its just gonna be another conquest map of doom stacks. For the battles htemselves I'd love to see something like stronghold battles implemented or just well ANYTHING better than WH3 capture the flag.
Pharaohs battles are decent, but again castle warfare SHOULD be its own thing.
"Everything dies"- Some Warhammer necromancer.
did you even watch the video? from what i read i would say no
Alien Isolation2 is coming.
Nobody will die here besides pixel armies.
We should give all a ♥♥♥♥ on any streamers and unemployed influenzas.
Nowadays cancer of subculture.
Total war for ever.
Thing is, just cos an Alien Isolation sequel, or anything at all, is announced that doesn't mean things'll necessarily be peachy no matter how fans might like it.
Seen that too often tbf, no dev, studio, publisher etc is immune to the fail, for whatever reason it may be.
Not that I'm wishing such or any misfortune on CA, as that would like be wishing upon myself. But we have to count past matters that still reverberate now even as we hope CA do alright. True, there's been some success since the debacle of last year for CA but if anything it showed that for the collected issues that reached snapping point for their endeavours and our patience one misstep made overshadowed all. That is, setting for themselves too many pots for the cooks, however skilled, to keep from spoiling.
It all came damn close, too near to complete and probably lasting catastrophe all round. CA need their core fanbase to keep the cash rolling in but that fanbase needs appeasing with a reasonable standard of ♥♥♥♥ done right even while said base needs be patient and moderate their expectations.
Alien Isolation 2 is one certainty announced and in progress for, I'll assume, one major team at CA... a done deal let's say. But I hope they don't overburden themselves with too much more besides, what with Pharaoh around and recent and the Warhammer IP unfinished for all it's flaws and what's been set back on track. I see a lot of ppl talking of things like WH40K TW, even rumours it may be in early stages and tbh as much as I'd love that I believe it remains a bridge too far just now to be given the really good throw it deserves without unduly risking troubles down the line.
At some point I was actively supporting, at another I was hoping they would fall, but now? Now I think I am in the apathy crowd. Both CA and the quite toxic community have taught me well where to spend my time and energy. Price on Alien Isolation 2 will be most likely insane. If a historic or Warhammer 40k title that is good enough won't appear beside milking Warhammer..they will diminish, but no journey west will await them. Only one into obscurity.
And btw the distinction between historical or fantasy is dumb and a red herring, the vast majority just want a really good game
Saw Legends response to Apollo and agree with his take. Apathy is death, worse than outrage, and that has been the response to most of releases lately.
And as an aside, I really I dont think anyone should "want" CA to die either. That kind of mindset is just so weird to me. not only is it unlikely, but in the incredibly under populated RTS market CA is one of the few success stories. If CA fails then that will reinforce the corporate mindset that strategy games simply do not sell. It means that people like the ones who were behind the hyenas disaster were a right, but executed their pivot incorrectly. The truth is that there likely wont be a successor that will take up total war style games either as all the other big players in the genre already have a niche they're good at. paradox excels at grand strategy, firaxis does turn based games, etc. CA failing as a company essentially means SEGA would come in with a corporate cutting crew and violently reshape CA into a mobile game slop factory studio, leaving its remanes as a cautionary tale to the entire gaming industry.
Tldr: the only real player in the field left will be paradox, Indie devs, and firaxis. total war as a concept would likely be a evolutionary dead end, and it may take a decade or more to see anything like it again.
Dying out isn't such a bad thing. Have you ever seen a company survive since the dawn of time? No.
Everything comes to an end at some point, good or bad.
By my count this should be #138. Might have missed a couple though
