Skulls!
I know skulls is an important symbol for The empire because it symbolises martyrdom and Sigmar. But man, CA went all in with the skull/death aesthetics and put it in the most random places. On a rock that holds up a bridge , skull. On a rock inside of an imperial city, skull. Thats something i would expect to see in the chaos wastes but not like this in civilised lands. Skulls looks more pleasing to see on buildings

Meanwhile, in the real world, we decorate everything with imagery of a dude who was tortured and executed in a way that is deliberately designed to be as slow, painful, and humiliating as possible.

If anything, the Empire's obsession with skulls is less gruesome than that.

Yeah. I have images of people being tortured all over the place. Especially my kitchen. I especially like the image of Burning Girl above my oven. (Kidding ofc, all you multi hair collored freaks!)

If you actually read my comments before you post or at least try and understand it first. Nothing against skulls. Its an Empire symbol of course. Its just all the random places like under that bridge. Do you understand now?

A reminder perhaps?

Like that hard times, hard men quote... cos the Empire went through some real heavy ♥♥♥♥ with Sigmar to emerge as the biggest single nation and light of mankind (bar Cathay) in the world... yet has oft fallen foul of such that Sigmar's ppl gave so much to rise above since those times. This one is along the lines of 'the blood of our ppl made this and only the same diligence as held by our heroes can maintain it'... and what better symbol to portray that balance of life and death, light and dark, enduring or waning than the skull?
I thought the skulls represented Morr the god of death. Morr protects the souls of the dead from being abused and used by necromancers and daemons. Which would make sense to put his symbols everywhere since those are real threats that could make your soul suffer for eternity

Did you see the changes to battle maps in the last patch? Just look at the before and after pics, note the changes, and then it will all make sense.

Lolo yes we do.
Mount Rushmore, Christ the Redeemer statue.
Must not even be Jesus on the Rocks.
The List is very Long. On some crossroads & tree avenues you will also find some crosses.
And since it is a Fantasy World, why not?
You can also use skulls for that, why not?
A skull is a Symbol in Warhammer.

There are people who has candleholder of that or some people are taking their drink out of the skulls.
Skal!

Christ, you are missing the point. Its about where you put it. If you overuse something and put it everywhere especially in dumb places it looses the purpose. I´m starting to realise the warhammer community isnt very bright

I think this is kinda the point. Death in warhammer world is so mundane and trivial that people place skulls etc everywhere because they ARE losing the purpose. They do not invoke fear or awe anymore, they are just as common as other flags or crests. Human's life is short and death is everywhere. Which is honestly very grimdark. I'd imagine imperial housewives would make skull-looking cookies for their husbands who go at war with chaos monsters tomorrow.

I like that sense of dread and the grimdark nature of Warhammer. I also like good aesthetics and design, and i see your point. Still dont think its good design. I like it when its carefully placed. I think this is a CA problem and not a Games Workshop problem. When CA thinks something looks cool, they develop a bad habbit of overusing it. Like those Titan remains from the Troy saga myth DLC. Sure, its cool to see remains from dead Titans from a cosmic war in the distant past, but its not cool to see it on every freaking map

Different culture, different civilization, different perspective.
What you would consider barbaric could be seen as the norm for them (the totally accurate example ~cough~ would be Mars Attack's white dove ! :D)

And tbh, it's GW's vision of Warhammer's world (just like any TRPG's GM would create their own vision of its world).
