A note on 'magistrix'.
Elspeth talks of herself as a magistrix.

To those that think it's a real word, it's not. The female form of magister is magistra. Magistrix was basically started as a term by world of warcraft, as far as I know.

I prefer the sound of magistra, it sounds less like someone trying to make it sound like a dominatrix variant of a magister.

That is all. Carry on.

I have to say, with Elspeth, the imperial lineup has gotten a bit weirder, with the landships, steam tank volley guns, and various other shenanigans.

The origin story of the landships amuses me. :)

Marienburg lord to random minion:
"Nuln is making steam tanks now. You! Make something similar we can sell!"

"Sure, whatever you say, boss."
(To himself:)
"Eh, we can't really match them so I'll just cobble something up that is doomed to fail and that'll be the end of it."

"Here! One horrible monstrosity for your perusal!"

"I love it! I want ten of those!"
"... what?"

I suspect this is the origin story of numerous real world things as well, come to think of it.

Gah. Yeah, they went a bit overboard with that lately. Imperial Guard->Astra Militarum and all that nonsense. But they went totally overboard with Age of Sigmar. It became just a bit ridiculous. Although, I guess some - especially GW's lawyers - think it's cool.

Magistrix is a word that mostly appeared with the WoW blood mages, and it's sometimes used in fantasy because obvious reasons. You find the occasional other short-lived or niche version used in real life - aviatrix, executrix, and you'll notice that -trix is the female suffix form of -tor. Aviator, executor, dominator.

However, the masculine word here is not magistor. It's magister, therefore magistra.

They present her like a goth dommy-mommy, tight fitting outfit, kiss makeup and everything, and tops it off with calling her a magistrix to make the concept even more obvious.

I don't think that's wrong, as such. Inventing words is a god-given right to every artist and artistic endeavor, as is turning it up to 11. But I do think it's worthwhile to point out it's not actually the right word for a magistra, in case someone wants to use it in other contexts.

Isn't Elspeth the dominatrix variant of a magister though ?

I figured that, since Elspeth is not just a magister but a MAGE-magister, real-world titles don't necessarily apply.

Yes, the wordplay is intended. She is the forbidden dominant goth girlfriend, your momma warns you about, in Warhammer.

1998 comedy/documentary with Kelsey Grammar about the nonsense that goes on at the Pentagon's weapons division. Based on a book by a guy who worked there.

I'm not bothered by magistrix (fantasy is gonna fantasy, and there are things in Warhammer which look and sound far sillier to me), but it's super neat to know the correct feminine form of -ter words, so thank you for that!

Worth noting that the guy who wrote that book was actually full of ♥♥♥♥.

Recommend looking up for an interesting read.
