Franz is a new emperor. The point of the campaign is that you need to hold the empire together while the world is going to ♥♥♥♥. It's not the campaign to play if you want an unbroken line of expansion.

The entire appeal of playing Empire is keeping it together while facing tons of factions that just want to burn it down.

There is a variety of other factions to play if you do not like this playstyle.

Look at guides/watch vids, you can unify the Empire in 50 turns
yea it would be fine if i wasn't surrounded by 2-3 people with multiple armies. do all of you guys just play normal/easy?

So you're complaining that a harder setting is harder?

VH/VH.

Who are you playing as? Franz? Because there's actually a pretty narrow list of priorities you need to follow to get out of the early game.

yea idk maybe i made the wrong decisions, went to middenland after it got raped and dealt with beastmen then the orcs/nurgle declared war, and then vlad...and now throt. just waiting for kemmler to do it next. literally surrounded with 2 armies broke af. idk how this is a recommended first campaign.

Karl's early campaigns should always follow this:

1. Kill rebels, control reikland
2. Head north, kill Khazrak
3. Kill Festus
4. Kill black pit orcs.

Return settlements to electors to build fealty

Once you've done that, you should have a great foundation made and a decision to make.

Either
A. Deal with kimmler before he comes to you, or
B. Kill vlad before he comes to you.

Whichever one is more immediately dangerous.

By you or the AI?

Also, have you tried keeping all the provinces as Western Rome in Attila? Empire is easy-mode in comparison

Yes,but add "1B Take Marienburg" which makes A easier

I'll try it next time.

I usually don't bother with Marienburg until the AI has built it up for me.

you should be able to win any battle vs AI with 1 stack vs 3-4 stacks without much issues. If you can't its a skill issue with manual battles. I suggest zerkovitch videos for basics and legendoftotalwar for cheese, though its easy enough without any cheese, the AI always blobs up idiotically and never protects their ranged units. Just get a mage and its gg, or at least if mages are unavailable for some reason (a mistake) get a lot of ranged units, the ai is incapable of properly flanking or surrounding a player so a range heavy army that would never work against another player works great against worthless battle AI. The battles are also meant to play with pause, since individual units have no AI of their own and just stand and die doing nothing without constant micro-management. If you insist on playing without pause for no good reason, use babysitter mod and/or ai general mod.

It takes 2 turns only and gives you money plus block Kemmler's expansion; if you don't take it you'll lose way more time chasing him up to the North coast !
