Maybe a larger pool of maps to choose from, if you go into custom battles there are practically 100's of maps to choose from.
There's a very important and concious design effort put into the terrain and aesthetic of each map that plays to strengths and weaknesses of the factions that encounter them.
Which gives each campaign more variety and fun strategical options.
A half baked crappy "random generator" would frustrate people much more as the balance between them all would swing very heavily, and the bugs and glitches would be far too numerous to count.
