Do people ascend Archaon (or other mortal LLs) into a daemon?
You get Physical Resistance, but you are also vulnerable to crumbling when you lose morale, so I am a bit wary. What's optimal?

Archaon cannot become a Daemon Prince. No Everchosen ever became a Daemon Prince, since the Chaos Gods saw what Be'lakor became.

he has a skill that turns him into a demon

I do. It just means he doesn't run away. If crumbling is something you're worrying about during a battle you've likely pretty much lost already anyway.

Which is unloreful, since no Everchosen ever got to ascend to Daemonhood.

Regardless, he never becomes a Daemon Prince.

What prompts you to do it?

Whatever the lore, in this game he can.

That's a good point!

No, he only gets a skill, he cannot become a Daemon Prince unlike regular Chaos Lords can.

Archaon cannot become a Deamon Prince.

He's talking about the late game skill that grants him physical resistance and some other stuff. It's called Ascension to Daemonhood and yes it is unloreful and yes, I think everyone takes it because it's a straight up buff.

The crumbling effect is completely negligible. By the time you get the skill, you'll already be beyond OP to even consider losing a fight

Thanks; I didn't know the consensus was so overwhelming toward taking the skill. I guess I am so paranoid of crumbling, but then - as you guys say - you shouldn't be in a position of losing manual combat with uber-powerful characters such as Archaon.

TBF, these characters have so much +leadership skills (usually) that negative leadership probably won't apply anyway.
Defmonkey Jul 22, 2024 @ 9:06pm
Yes correct, will be a one man army by that point

Yes i got muddled up with the OP and other posts mentioning daemon princes. Archaon doesnt physically change in to one like other mortal lords but with the skill he could technically become a deamon. Negatives are definitely trivial as you mentioned.

same can be said about running away
except you can recover from running away
and then come back with a charge bonus and recovery spells and effects
things that dont apply to crumbling, being demonic is purely a negative except for the pitiful physical resist

No where in the post did OP say Daemon prince, simply said Daemon... And that is what he can do in the game, loreful or not..
@OP you can babysit him with Karnak to retain the Phys resist, but otherwise you will have to pick your fights otherwise you wont get anything from it.
And while Archy will hardly never lose a fight against AI, it is a potential thing that could go wrong, and daemonic instability is insanely brutal, if you hit negative, he's likely going down no chance to recover..
Personally i am a bit torn on it, and tend to go without it.. Most decent lords that can actually fight against him, will have magic weapon anyway..
But it does help with fighting stuff like sem's that often does not have magical weapons..
